A Message from Miss Fleming

Dear Frederica Family,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. It is an honor and a joy to return to this amazing school with a clear mission, obvious kindness and respect, appropriate academic rigor, and strong college preparation. The girls and boys mature into positive members of society. The Board of Trustees have always tirelessly steered the school with wisdom and steadfastness often in an unsteady world. Extraordinary is the forever fact that our parents work hand-in-hand with our outstanding teachers to bring each Frederica Knight to his or her potential.

Personally, I am eternally grateful to John Pope and the entire amazing FA Leadership Team. When I first walked in here less than a week ago, school was about ready to begin due to all of their efforts. Thank you and thanks to all who have helped and offered to help. We are in great shape. I will catch up.  As has been my custom, I plan to be highly visible and hope you will introduce yourselves to me as we fully embrace the goodness of this school.

As a reminder, we have the Back-to-School Barbeque on Tuesday night as well as the Booster Club Tailgate Party and home football game on Friday night!

Please join me each day for thanking God for Frederica Academy.

See you soon,

Ellen Fleming
Interim Head of School

August 21 Solar Eclipse Celebrations

On Monday, August 21, a solar eclipse will cut across the entire United States. Even though the "totality" - the area where the sun is completely blocked out by the moon - is only 70 miles wide, the entire country (even Alaska and Hawaii) will experience a partial eclipse. Click HERE for more information.

In Glynn County, the eclipse is projected to begin at 1:16 p.m. and last until 4:11 p.m. The eclipse will peak at 2:46:50 p.m., when the moon will obscure 94.1% of the sun.

Lower School students (Kindergarten + Grades 1-5) will celebrate with a Capri Sun + Moon Pie Party as they use protective eyewear to experience the eclipse. Coach Willis will lead a delegation of about sixty Upper School science students who will travel to Columbia, South Carolina, for the optimal eclipse experience. Plans are being finalized for Middle School students and Upper School students who will remain on campus. We will arrange to have protective eyewear for all students participating in outdoor campus activities.

Signed permission forms will be required for students participating in outdoor eclipse activities. These forms will be available this week.

An excused absence will be offered for parents who want to check out students so that they can have a shared family experience during this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
