A Message from the FA Parent Association

Dear Frederica Academy Parents,

I hope that your school year is off to a great start! Thank you for joining us at the Back-to-School BBQ. We hope you enjoyed connecting with old friends and meeting new ones at this great Frederica tradition!

Membership and Mission - Every parent or guardian at Frederica is automatically a member of the FA Parent Association. Our mission is to enrich student life by supporting the faculty and staff, promoting a sense of community among our school families and encouraging a spirit of volunteerism. To accomplish this mission we volunteer, raise funds, and host various community-building events. The first such event was the BBQ. The second one is our first Parent Association Meeting on Thursday, September 7. The meeting will be in Hamilton Hall between 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Ellen Fleming will be our guest speaker so please plan to join us for a cup of coffee and the chance to chat with our Head of School and hear the latest news.

Fundraising - There are a number of relatively painless ways to help us raise funds for the school. For example:
  • Poinsettia and Greenery Sale - Buy your poinsettias and holiday greenery from the Parent Association! You will hear more about this soon.
  • Amazon Smile - Frederica receives cash back from Amazon when you select Frederica as the charitable organization you want to support. Just go to www.smile.amazon.com to get started!
  • Mabel's Labels - For great clothing and other labels, go to www.mabelslabels.com and click the Support a Fundraiser tab. Choose Frederica and enjoy your new labels!
  • Box Tops and Labels for Education - Just cut these off of the boxes and cans you probably already have in your kitchen pantry and turn them into the school at the next Parent Association Meeting. It's that easy and Frederica receives cash back!
  • Harris Teeter and Publix - Link your cards to Frederica to provide cash back to the school. The Harris Teeter card must be re-linked each year but once the Publix cards are linked, they stay linked.
  • Lands' End and the PA Used Uniform Sales - If you want new uniforms, be sure to buy them through Lands' End. If gently used is more your style, The Parent Association will host a uniform sale at each monthly PA meeting. We'll take donations anytime!
Volunteering - The Parent Association runs on volunteer power. By volunteering, you put your skills, talents, hobbies, and interests to work as well as have an opportunity to meet a whole new group of people. There are many different ways to volunteer including baking cookies, serving as a Grade Representative or Board Officer, collecting Box Tops, selling wreaths, and/or helping out at a luncheon to name a few. Whether you are looking for an ongoing role or to just help out every once in a while, we will find a way for you to get involved or get more involved. Every hour of support is greatly appreciated! Please email us at our new Frederica Academy Parent Association address,  [email protected], if you can help.

Sincerely,

Barry Kaminer
FA Parent Association President

Upper School students participated in Retreat Day on Friday.  Freshmen and Seniors bonded at the Epworth Ropes Course, Sophomores participated in a community service project at Communities in Schools, and Juniors enjoyed a class kayak trip.

Each Friday, First Grade students complete a STEM activity around 12:35 p.m. The students just started their ocean unit, so they learned about oil spills and ocean life this past Friday. Small groups of students explored how to get oil out of the "ocean."  Click HERE for more information.

... At FA, in the Fifth Grade. It is a longstanding tradition for Fourth Grade students to be responsible for this patriotic ritual.
