A Message from the FA Board of Trustees

Dear FA Parents,

The 2017-18 school year is up and running! Thank you to Ellen Fleming who has jumped in with her educational expertise, leadership skills and unconditional love for Frederica Academy to help engineer this successful start. Another heartfelt thank you goes to the school's Leadership Team and the wonderful faculty and staff for giving it their all every day for the successful education of your children and the fulfillment of the Frederica Academy mission:  To maximize each student's potential and prepare him or her for college and adult life through the development of mind, body, and spirit.

There are many updates. Thank you to all who attended the Board Parent Forums. Helpful discussions were held at all three forums, and the Board feels better informed about what is on the minds of many of our parents. I hope the parents who attended also feel better informed. Your willingness to participate in these forums and your eagerness to know more about the school affirms our commitment for open, thoughtful, and productive communication within the Frederica community.

For those of you who were not able to attend the parent forums, I refer you to the Frederica Academy website where you will find more information about the Board of Trustees by clicking  HERE . Additional information will be added to the Board website page in the coming days based on feedback received during the parent forums. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or thoughts that you would like to share regarding the Board of Trustees or the strategic direction of the school. Please click HERE to reach me via email.

With respect to operational communication channels, we always encourage parents to start with teachers and coaches/advisors when an issue relates to a classroom or athletic/extracurricular matter. Division Directors and/or counselors should be consulted if the issue is broader, sensitive, or requires more attention. Other members of the Leadership Team are available should you have an idea or recommendation regarding their area of responsibility. Please contact Miss Fleming should you have a school-wide concern or determine that the issue or opportunity requires her direct involvement.

The Head of School Search is underway. We will hold Listening Sessions that will prov ide the opportunity to share input on the best way to describe our school and the Head of School job opportunity as well as what you believe we should be looking for in our next Head of School.   We welcome your input to help us attract a top-notch candidate.  Please save the following dates:

A communication with more information will be sent closer to the dates. If you are unable to attend, you will have the opportunity to provide written input.

The last few weeks have been hectic, but they have also been stimulating. To hear about the passion and commitment of our families as well as the passion and dedication of our faculty, staff and Leadership has been awe inspiring.

I mentioned at the Upper School Board Parent Forum that I believe Frederica Academy is indeed like family. Like all families, Frederica Academy is at its best when there is an open line of communication, respect for one another, a shared vision, and an insatiable appetite for making things better whenever they are not at their best.

As a family, we must all come together to support Frederica Academy. Although we will always encourage internal discussion regarding how we can truly become the best school possible, we should be intentional to project a united and positive external front as we talk with others about our wonderful school. Sharing the great things that are happening with your child's education is the most powerful way you can support Frederica Academy. Bring someone on campus and show them what you and your child love about Frederica. Encourage and foster a desire within them to want to be a part of the FA family.

This is an important time for our school. I ask everyone in our family to rally around FA and Miss Fleming as we seek to identify our next Head of School and make plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this special place in 2019-2020!

Thank you for being a valuable member of the FA family and for entrusting the education of your children to this school.

Sincerely,

Frederica Academy Board of Trustees, Chair

FA Knights in The News

Click HERE to read an article which appeared in Thursday's Brunswick News regarding the Middle School Service Learning class and its involvement with the House of Hope in Brunswick. The same day the article appeared in the newspaper, The Brunswick News' feature editorial spotlighted the importance of Service Learning in our community.

Darcelle Burandt, the founder of House of Hope and a Frederica Academy parent, shared this note with school administrators following the publication of the article:

" I want to thank all of you so much not only for coming out and blessing the house beyond all measure but just for raising awareness in the community. Allowing a newspaper article like this to go out was a huge blessing. I believe what Coach Mathis is doing with this class is one of the most important things we can teach our kids above all else."

FA Photos of the Week

Miss Fleming was the Mystery Reader in the Pre-K Center on Friday. She brought Lizzie, her beloved dog, with her to help with the assignment. They were well received by our youngest learners!
