60 Second Inspirations

Sara Zimmerman didn't want to dread turning 50 so she turned it into a reason to celebrate.  Taking better care of her health became a main focus and it brought her to a place she is happy to be at, mentally and physically.  Her story is inspiring.  Catch it this Monday night on the WBKB 6pm news and catch the replay on our Facebook page the next day.

We have gifted dozens of BAC stadium blankets in August to members who have hit their 100th check in!  We've also given out sideline chairs to DeAnn Carter, Krista Morrow and Rhonda Keller for hitting their 200th check in!  It's been an exciting month in so many ways. Wherever you're at, you are on track to earning yourself a BAC Rewards gift if you keep your workouts consistent. You can do it too!

Here's the quick 411 on BAC Rewards: we want to reward YOU, our members, for making fitness a priority year round.  Members who get at least 100 check-ins during 2018 will receive a red BAC sweatshirt blanket: perfect for picnics, sporting events or snuggling on the couch.  Members who get at least 200 check-ins during 2018 will get the blanket and the sideline chair!  Oh...it comes with a carrying case too!

NEW IN SEPTEMBER: all new members who get at least 20 check ins during their first two months at BAC will earn this shirt!  We wanted our BAC Rewards program to offer perks even for members starting in the middle of the year too.

No strings attached, just more BAC SWAG and incentive for you, our valued members.

Shakeology of the Month
APPLE PIE SHAKEOLOGY
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a vitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

LATE SUMMER SALAD
As we head into September, the bounty of the Farmers Market is still producing wonderful produce and herbs. This salad is an example of how to meld flavors together with your available pantry items and fresh produce. Try this salad or try swapping out some of your available pantry items.

Ingredients
6 cups mixed baby lettuces
½ cup of torn basil leaves
½ cup peeled, chopped cucumber
¼ cup feta cheese, crumbled
¼ cup sliced Kalamata olives
1 avocado, diced
¼ pepitas seeds
4 medium beets, peeled and chopped
1 lbs. Chicken breast
4 TBSP Goddess dressing or your favorite Italian

Method
Marinate the chicken breast in 1 TBSP of dressing for 30 minutes before grilling well done. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before chopping. The beets can be roasted ahead of time or heat oven to 400 degrees. Meanwhile, peel raw beets and chop into similar size 1 inch pieces. Drizzle with a small amount of oil, salt and pepper on a baking sheet. Cover with tin foil and bake for about 40 minutes or until a knife can easily pierce a large piece of beet.

Assemble the ingredients in a large, yet shallow bowl and enjoy. Serves 2 adults.

September 2018
Sending kids to school with good health...

It's back to school time. So, it's a great day to reflect on this truth.  Bay Athletic Club believes that healthy
families are happy families.  And it starts with us.

Happy families are not perfect families.
Our kids are still going to squabble sometimes.
As parents, we are going to lose patience now and then.  We still rush out the door in frustration from time to time.

But overall, we know that parents who are fit-minded raise kids who eat better foods, have more daily activity and even get better sleep. Healthy kids go to school with more confidence and more energy.

School is hard enough. Between the classes, homework, getting along with peers and adapting to many different teaching styles, kids have a load on them already. We can make it easier by giving them the gift of health for their school year.

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, educator, or adult role model in a child's life, YOU have the ability to influence their health. Set the example. Start with you. Get back on your own workouts. Drink more water. Prepare more meals. Buy less junk. Leave the bags of chips, candy, packaged treats and soda at the store. Pack real food in their lunches (check out the BAC FB page this week for Back to School lunch box and quick dinner ideas!)

I had fun creating this collage with as many BAC teammates' first day of school pictures as I could find this morning. I know there are more! And you are in my heart as well.

Fall brings another season and other chance to take control of your health. We have MANY options for you to choose from --- from fitness to nutrition to group classes to camp, BAC is your solution and it feels like home!

See you at at the club, my friend!

COMING THIS FALL: MORE NUTRITION EDUCATION AT BAC!
As a community health club, we know that we are in the business of fitness. But we are also advocates for wellness and healthy living. We know that nutrition is a big part of our overall health. Healthy food can serve as medicine for the body, fuel for our life and help keep diseases at bay.

Personal Trainer and Certified Health Coach Amanda Freeland will be taking on a greater role at BAC as our Nutrition Educator. She recently completed a certification through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and is ready to serve our community even more. She, along with Rick Houchin, Personal Trainer and Certified Precision Nutrition Coach, will continue to provide nutrition coaching and education to our members in many ways. From live videos on our Facebook page to food journaling to one-on-one appointments to weight and measurements and goal tracking. We are always innovating and looking for new ways to bring you accountability and support and help YOU make the right choices.

NEW THIS FALL: TURNING POINT

About a decade ago, BAC offered a 6-week nutrition support and weight loss program called Turning Point. The goal was to help our members have a healthier RELATIONSHIP with food and learn to eat well for life, taking off extra weight and stress for good.

This pilot program 10 years ago created amazing transformations that changed participants relationship with food and ultimately, their mindset towards living healthy forever. It is BACK and now has new tools, new structure and fresh leadership!

Amanda has spent the past year as a student of integrative nutrition and is excited to bring her expertise to BAC members beginning in September.  The stars aligned when Beachbody, a global leader in health that BAC partners with, released a nutrition life-style program called 2B Mindset.  It was created by a nationally-recognized registered dietician and nutritionist from Stanford.

The goal is to help people have a positive relationship with food, eat with mindfulness, and never diet again. 2B Mindset incorporates many of the principles Amanda learned in her certification.  They mesh together perfectly and will give our members the ability to feel empowered, satisfied and less stressed when it comes to nutrition. Participants will shed weight in a healthy way and keep it off.

We are planning to start with small group four to six participants in September.  If you are interested in investing in lasting weight loss, private coaching and group support, contact  [email protected] today to find out more. Fitness will be optional, but encouraged.
