Servant Leadership

I've been reading a lot about leadership recently. I've always been interested in developing as a leader in the past but I never focused on it as much as I do now. I'm reading a great book titled "The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership" by John C. Maxwell. Maxwell is one of my favorite authors. I've read several of his books.

There's one particular law with the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership I'd like to highlight. It's Law #5, the Law of Addition. Maxwell says "Leaders Lead by Serving Others". He goes on to say "Leadership is not how far we advance ourselves but how far we advance others.". This really touched me as a leader. It's easy to get caught up in how well we are leading our companies or organizations. If we're not careful we can make things become more about ourselves than the people we have the privilege of leading.

I'd like to challenge all of my leaders reading this to push yourself to grow as a leader. Read something on leadership, attend a leadership seminar or sit down for an hour or with a well respected leader. Leaders are learners! If you are a true leader, you never stop learning and when we lead to add value to those we are leading, we are exemplifying the definition of Servant Leadership.

Why people are moved to action with FCA
From  FCA Huddle Leaders to Board Members, people from all walks of life get involved with FCA for many different reasons.

Below are several quotes from those people:

"Why FCA - FCA is a way for us to plant the seeds of Jesus Christ in today's youth. God will take care of the rest."
Dan D'Orazio- Huddle Leader  Cuyahoga Hts. MS & HS

"The reason I am involved in FCA is their ability to connect with youth who would otherwise not hear the good news of Jesus Christ from a respected source.  Coaches have a unique position in our society based upon respect and leadership.  Their access to our youth make them the perfect delivery channel to open young  hearts to the good news of Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation.  Without FCA many of our youth would not hear the good news especially from a trusted source.  As a businessman, I consider my financial investment in FCA one of the best returns on investment available for Christian causes."
Bob Campana- Board Member

"FCA is a scheduled time for us to take a break from the other priorities and spend time strengthening our spiritual lives. My students seem to take this knowledge and experience into their college years. It seems that during college that they connect the dots so to speak."
Shaun Kinley- Huddle Leader St. Edward HS
