Starting Over
We all have regrets. Many of them come from our attempts to fulfill unmet longing. The problem is many of us get stuck in an endless cycle of longing and regret, unable to move forward. Our hope is that we would all come to see that God is big enough to redeem even our worst regrets. He can use everything for a greater good. On Sunday, September 10, we will begin a new sermon series titled
Starting Over. Nothing needs to keep us from the joy and purpose of God has for our lives! We can start over and live a life beyond regret. Invite a friend who needs to hear this truth.
Fall Life Groups Starting Soon!
God designed us to live and grow in community. Life Groups are the way people grow spiritually and connect relationally at First Christian. Groups are small groups of 8-12 people that study the Bible, laugh and have fun together, and pray for each other. There is a variety of groups from women's, to men's, to young adults, college aged, married couples, and widows. We want you to experience what having a Life Group is about. We are forming new groups now for the Fall semester. We need people who are willing to be a Group Host as well as people who want to join a group. For more information or to sign up, email Misty at [email protected]
Outreach Opportunity - MacMurray College Move In Day
Here at FCC, we have a 3D Vision (Discover, Develop, Deploy). Every August almost 600 college students pack up their belongings, say 'goodbye' to mom and dad, and head to MacMurray College to work towards their goal of getting a college degree. Leaving home is never easy, and once the students arrive on campus they are tasked with getting all of their possessions into the room that they will call home for the next 9 months. On August 26 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. we want to deploy onto the campus of MacMurray and help make this transition a little easier on the students. We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus to these students by helping in a practical way. We would like to be available to carry furniture, rugs, mini-fridges, and other items into the dorms, give them a Welcome to Jacksonville bag and simply let them know if they do not have a church home they are welcome here. If you are interested in helping for this event, please sign up by calling the Church Office at 243-6445.

Buy Two - Give One
Missions Team Paper Goods Drive
Jesus told us to love our neighbor and this is an opportunity to share the love of Jesus with the neighbors of our community.  The Missions team recently reached out to Vanessa Tyus from New Directions Warming Center and Polly Pulley from Spirit of Faith Church.  They chose these ladies because their ministries are responsible for feeding some 600-700 people monthly. They do this with thread-bare budgets and lots of donations and volunteers.  The team asked them one simple question, "What is your greatest need?" Their response was that they need disposable plates, disposable cups, disposable silverware and napkins.

We are beginning an initiative called "Buy Two - Give One."  The concept is simple.  When you buy napkins, foam plates, plastic cups or plastic silverware, instead of buying one package, would you consider buying two?  Bring one to the church and drop it off in one of the totes located by each main entrance identified "Buy Two - Give One".  You may also drop them off at the church office Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Then, each week we will divide the goods donated equally to each ministry.  We will accept donations through the end of August.  Our goal is to donate enough of these items for the ministries to use through the end of the year.  "Buy Two - Give One"- it's a great
way to be the hands and feet of Jesus!

Habitat for Humanity Property Update

595 Freedman Street
:This home is progressing well! If you can spare an hour or two, we would love to have you come out!

Work days are scheduled for:
Wednesdays & Saturdays
8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

UPDATE: All of the drywall is installed and the first coat of finishing is complete on 2/3 of the house. There will be experienced drywall guys finishing the inside of the house this week and hopefully be to the point of painting walls by Saturday, August 5! If you have been wanting to help with the project, and have been waiting for an easier task, you may want to make plans to be available next Saturday morning to help us with painting and general cleanup of the house and lot. Any help would be appreciated and it would be a good chance to put your stamp on the house and say you had a hand in finishing it for the homeowner! Just show up to work or text Ryan Turner (217-370-6101) ahead of time to set up a special day.

Women's Intercessory Prayer - August 3, 17 & 31 at 5:00 p.m.
For a long while now, FCC has been known within the community as a "praying" church. We are excited to be growing in this area of ministry. The Women's prayer ministry has recently come along side our Elders to pray with individuals after each Sunday morning service in the Fireside Room. We are expanding to offer one-on-one prayer with women at other times throughout the week and host a prayer time every other Thursday night, 5:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the church. All ladies are invited to join in the Sanctuary to pray and care for our community.
Quilting for Charity - August 3 & 17
