A Sweet Close to our Annual Student Show

A wonderful after school program at Glen Edwards Middle School, led by Sruti Vadgama, is teaching students the art of sugar work.  G.E.M.S. students decorated these delicious cupcakes with appropriately themed artist palettes and picture frames to the delight of visitors attending our closing night reception. We'll be sure to invite them to share their work again with us in the future.  And I don't think we'll be able to wait until next year's show.

Murieta - Corn Husk Doll
Impressive Talent

The young artists from our local secondary schools were once again impressive with their talent, imagination, and bold use of color in our annual student art show.  We had 160 pieces of art in the gallery with paintings, drawings, mixed media, ceramics, photography, and even a welded metal spider.
Standouts

Two of my favorite pieces from this years event were "Marifer" by Marin Espinoza.  I've seen corn husk dolls before but this middle school student created the most lively and dynamic one I've ever seen.  I swear I'd catch it dancing out of the corner of my eye every time I walked by.
And our very own Gallery Assistant Dylan Silva demonstrates year after year that he's got "mad" skills with a pencil.  His piece "Ringtail and the Blind Man" has incredible detail.

Nina Mazzo at student reception
Phoenix High School

Phoenix High School students were included in our annual student art show for the first time this year. Their teacher Nina Mazzo does an absolutely wonderful job with her students and introduces them to a myriad of great art projects throughout the school year.  Nina was a fabulous hostess and warmly greeted visitors during our closing reception.  Look for more info to come on their annual show coming in May at the high school.  I'll keep you posted.

Until Next Year

A special thanks to the teachers who make extra time and effort above and beyond their normal workload to have their students work included in this show.  Lisa Ward - Glen Edwards Middle School. Deborah Pratt, Vonnie McGinn, Debbie and Matt Tofft - Lincoln High School, and Nina Mazzo - Phoenix High School. (Twelve Bridges Middle School will return next year)

PLEIN AIR EXHIBIT
Paintings of Lincoln & Nearby

February 10 - 24

Join us for this special exhibit presented by the Lincoln Plein Air Painters Group.
Local painters who have met on a weekly basis for around a decade. They paint "en plein air" or 'outdoors', directly in front of their subject capturing the aesthetically rich locations that we have right here in the ponds, foothills, and urban structures surrounding Lincoln. This enthusiastic group is interested in making the Lincoln community and surrounding areas aware of the region from a painter's perspective.

This exhibit features 73 absolutely gorgeous plein air works, an Art Talk and Opening Reception.  Don't miss them!

"Why Paint Outdoors?"

Thursday
February 15
4:00 p.m.

This presentation more fully explains "en plein air" painting and gives insight into the tools and techniques used to paint on location. Several members of the Lincoln Plein Air Painters Group will present and share their knowledge and experiences on how to paint nature directly, in an alla prima (wet-on-wet) style of paint application, rather than from photographs or other references. Those in attendance will be entered into an artwork prize give away. This art talk is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Light refreshments will be served.
