Fox Island Emergency Planning

Having completed a test of our Emergency Preparedness on June 8, 2016, in conjunction  with the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management (DEM), we submitted  to DEM a summary of our test results. DEM has acknowledged receipt of the summary.  We will address areas where we believe improvements are needed this fall.

An updated EMERGENCY PLAN is in the works and will be available for distribution  at the FICRA Fair on  August 13th . Please stop by our booth (look for our banner) and get your  copy.
The updated PLAN will also be posted on  ficra.org .

Thanks for community support of this program, brought to you by the FICRA BUILDING TRUST,  and for the many volunteers (over 100) that have devoted time and talent to make it happen.

Crime Watch Updates

As we are entering the dog days of August, a reminder that kids and pedestrians are out in force. We also have summer guests driving to and from the island. Therefore, please watch your speed and safe driving. There are no reasons for the incidents of Road Rage we are experiencing here! Remember to be respectful to the other drivers around you.

Please make sure to stay alert when it comes to any individuals or cars that seem to be out of place in your neighborhood. We don't want everyone living in fear, but we should be aware of our surroundings. If you see something that does not seem right, call the Sheriff's department's non-emergency number
(798-4721), or leave a message on the Crime Watch hotline (253-549-7744). A member of the Citizen Patrol will get back to you ASAP.

Finally, another reminder of one of our services for ALL island residents. We offer home check services while you and your family are on vacation or away for a few days.

We hope to see all of you at at the FICRA Fair on August 13th! You should look for our Crime Watch banner at the top of the booth. We have a great raffle prize this year that everyone in the family can share!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on our hotline (253-549-7744).

The information collected will help FICRA evaluate the interest and fundraising needs for these improvements.  A survey has been created to gather input. Please click on the link below and complete the survey by August 15. Paper surveys are available at the Post Office.

3rd Wednesday Concerts at the Chapel

      Wednesday, August 17th
      Potluck at 6:00
      Music at 7:00

Elijah Bossenbroek is a veteran marine who composed his songs on his portable keyboard while he served in Kuwait, Iraq and Japan. Though trained in classical piano as a child, Elijah tossed out convention to create his own exciting style that has garnered millions of fans from all over the world. His music is original, inventive and has a very cinematic feel. He never plays his songs exactly the same; living in the moment on an improvisational journey through powerful waves of emotions and dynamics.

Please bring a dish to share. Third Wednesday concerts are free to Chapel members. Not a member? Join at the door for $25 for a family membership good through December 2017.

Benefiting the Chapel

The Kim Archer Band, voted Best of Tacoma in 2014, will perform at Zog's Beer Garden August 19 in a concert to benefit The Chapel on Echo Bay. Vocalist and guitar-player Archer has a loyal following of fans in the Pacific Northwest. Her music is a mixture of blues, soul and classic rock and her music has often been compared to the strong, heartfelt hits of early Bonnie Raitt. "...Archer combines natural vocal talent and a commanding stage presence that packs, then rocks the house and brings even the most reticent fan to his or her feet," wrote Industry Magazine. This concert is part of a series of educational social, and cultural programs sponsored by the Fox Island Chapel Preservation Society to  raise money to maintain the 115-year-old facility.

About FICRA

The Fox Island Community & Recreation Association (FICRA) was formed in 1970. Its purpose is to promote matters pertaining to the health and safety of Fox Island residents, to promote the welfare and development of Fox Island, and to provide recreation and social activities of a non profit nature as a public service to the residents of Fox Island.

The FICRA Building Trust operates and maintains the Nichols Community Center, the Fox Island Playground and the adjacent Fox Island Nature Center.  FICRA and the FICRA Trust are volunteer organizations that are here to serve our Island community by providing many great social and recreational activities for islanders to enjoy.

FICRA relies on its many volunteer members to make it all happen, from the Easter Egg Hunt, The Plant Sale and student speaker competition in the Spring, Fox Island Fair in the Summer, concerts, Christmas Tree Lighting and our Party with a Purpose event in the Winter. Come join us and see how you can help FICRA continue to provide many great activities for our community to enjoy. Go to  ficra.org and click on the 'contact us' button, or e-mail us directly at  info@ficra.org. We are always looking for volunteers.

To become more familiar with what these organizations do and their great value to the Fox Island community, attend a monthly Board meeting (open to the public). We'll be glad to show you around. You may also call the FICRA President, Jim Braden, at 253-459-5588 for more information.
