Fox Island Emergency Plan

Your Emergency Preparation Team(TEAM) hopes that you visited our display at the FICRA  Fair on August 13th and obtained a copy of the updated PLAN. If not,  no worry, go to the  ficra.org  web-site and download a copy. The PLAN will bring  you up to date on our accomplishments during the past year and the major components  of the PLAN.

Our display at the Fair included newly acquired military cots that  will be located at the Nichols Community Center treatment center, generators to power the  Communication Center, signup sheets for volunteers needed by our various teams,  and other safety equipment. We were joined by  representatives from the  Pierce  County Department of Emergency Planning (DEM) and the Peninsula Emergency  Preparation Coalition (PEP-C) that provided guidance on preparation.

Your dedicated TEAM, now over 100 strong, needs your help to maintain this critical
program sponsored by the FICRA Building Trust (TRUST ). Please consider joining our ranks and  volunteering. Signup at  ficra.org  or talk with any TRUST officer.

Those that attended the BRIDGE MEETING on August 2nd know first hand the importance  of preparing for a major occurrence. Your TEAM is dedicated to that mission.

Thank you from Your Emergency Planning Team
Crime Watch Updates

As you read this tip for the month of September, our children are starting another school year. Let's make an extra effort to watch out for their welfare. Please remember to respect the speed limit on the island. It might take you a few minutes more to get to your destination, but our students, walkers/runners and bicyclists will be safer and you will too!

A lot of people are still taking vacations; always remember to have someone bring in your garbage cans. Since they usually have your home # on them, it makes you an easy mark if yours is the only one left out for longer than one day. Also, plan accordingly and don't forget about our Home Checks. It gives you another level of protecting your home.

September 10th is All Island Garage Sale. Maps will be sold at the Alliance Church and will benefit Citizen Patrol.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on our hotline (253-549-7744).

About FICRA

The Fox Island Community & Recreation Association (FICRA) was formed in 1970. Its purpose is to promote matters pertaining to the health and safety of Fox Island residents, to promote the welfare and development of Fox Island, and to provide recreation and social activities of a non profit nature as a public service to the residents of Fox Island.

The FICRA Building Trust operates and maintains the Nichols Community Center, the Fox Island Playground and the adjacent Fox Island Nature Center.  FICRA and the FICRA Trust are volunteer organizations that are here to serve our Island community by providing many great social and recreational activities for islanders to enjoy.

FICRA relies on its many volunteer members to make it all happen, from the Easter Egg Hunt, The Plant Sale and student speaker competition in the Spring, Fox Island Fair in the Summer, concerts, Christmas Tree Lighting and our Party with a Purpose event in the Winter. Come join us and see how you can help FICRA continue to provide many great activities for our community to enjoy. Go to  ficra.org and click on the 'contact us' button, or e-mail us directly at  info@ficra.org. We are always looking for volunteers.

To become more familiar with what these organizations do and their great value to the Fox Island community, attend a monthly Board meeting (open to the public). We'll be glad to show you around. You may also call the FICRA President, Jim Braden, at 253-459-5588 for more information.
