Students are always free. All are welcome.

The Christian Education Committee is looking for some volunteers over the summer. We need  readers and helpers for summer story time for our children 5th grade and younger. Following Brandy's Front Row Moment you'll leave with the kids to share a story and do an easy activity in the JFO Room. Everything will be provided for you! Everyone will return to worship during the offering time.

CLICK HERE for the summer reading list.
We are also in need of volunteers to staff the nursery throughout the summer. Sign up for either the nursery or summer reading on the CE/Youth Board.

This year's Vacation Bible School Hero Central will take place on July 17th-21st at First Church. VBS is opened to children entering K-6th grade and will run from  9am-noon with a lunch option to follow. Register online at

Youth and adults interested in helping with VBS should talk to Brandy.

We are also still in need of t-shirts to turn into super hero capes! T-shirts MUST be blank either on the front or on the back and need to be Red
, Blue, Green, Purple or Yellow. T-shirts can be given to Brandy.

The First Church Fellowship Committee has a fantastic opportunity for you!  We're starting a new project called Fabulous Finney Food from First Church.  Your first opportunity to participate comes  Sunday, May 21 , when fellowship time after church will become a reception celebrating graduations, reunions and the end of the academic year.

Your family's favorite healthy snacks and treats will be the star attraction. We're asking you to whip up your treats, and bring a copy of the recipe to share. It'll be the start of a Fabulous Finney Food collection for your whole church family. Please sign up on the table in the hallway by the CE/YOUTH Board to let us know what you're bringing, and be ready for a healthy feast on  May 21 .

This year's Chalk Walk is June 24th.  We at First Church have LOTS of sidewalk space with which to welcome artists and families.  The thought is to put key words of our Vision and Values statement on the sidewalk and offer guests the opportunity to draw images that the words suggest.  We would also like to serve lemonade to the thirsty.  We need volunteers to write out words-perhaps provide one or two examples and also folks to serve lemonade.  You can sign up on the table under the CE/YOUTH board, or email Marci Peterson at or contact the church office if you are interested in participating.

We are currently reading and discussing Listening For God,  by Paula Carlson and Peter Hawkins. All are welcome on Tuesdays at 4pm in Room 3. Please email Marci Peterson if interested at .

Rust United Methodist Church is hosting this special event on Saturday, May 20th from 9am-4pm. There will be free hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks, popcorn and music. The event is open to the public. Come fellowship and support this effort!

Donations of clothing can be dropped off on Friday, May 19th from 4pm - 9pm at Rust United Methodist, 128 Groveland St., Oberlin.

As the academic year ends, here are a few reminders and a list of house-keeping items to keep in mind:

To schedule meeting space or reserve a room please call or email the church office. First Church is used heavily by members and the Oberlin community. We are glad to host your meeting or event, however, it must be scheduled ahead of time with the office so that rooms can be readied if needed and the calendar can be updated so the staff is aware of what rooms are being used and when.

A weekly calendar of ALL events being held at First Church is available on the bulletin board by the parking lot main doors.

A weekly calendar of First Church events is available in the Sunday bulletin as well as on the home page of the church website.

Greeters and Liturgists are still needed throughout the summer. Please sign up in the gallery to greet, or speak to someone at the Welcome Table on Sunday mornings if you are new to greeting. If you are interested in being a liturgist, please email Linda Gates. Thank you!

Sunday bulletin deadline for announcements is Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Please keep articles to 3-4 sentences. Thank you.

Monday First Things First deadline for announcements is Fridays at 11 a.m.
