The Turtle's Webb Look is...
For my maternal grandparents
I grew up in churches
my grandparents
my mothers
and in the churches of the catholic schools I attended.
My grandparents were farm folk from Humboldt Tennessee.
That is to say they were "Country", pig pins, slop buckets,
out house, chicken coops, pickin'cotton, hoes and tent rivals.
On some Sundays in the 1970's
After church in the evening we would get a
little extra preachin'. They would watch and
force my brother and I to watch preachin' on TV
For a long time, I did not understand why they listened
to him nor why they encouraged us to do so.
Then later, my mother explained and I realized my grandparents
had been teaching by example.
...the triumphant celebration of "country" folk, there hard work,
faith and beliefs.
