FL: JTA's NEW AWAITED BUS RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM

Last week, Jacksonville Transportation Authority launched the first phase of the "The First Coast Flyer", their new premium bus rapid transit service. A few years ago JTA faced a common transportation challenge, moving an increasingly larger population around the city with a limited number of streets. The solution, the city leaders created was to build a Bus-Rapid-Transit system with dedicated lanes that would offer riders faster, more frequent, and more reliable trips. This bus system was designed to have fewer stops, shorter waits and a reliable way to get around the city.  For example, the buses are scheduled to pass every 10 minutes on peak hours and every 15 minutes off peak hours.

The First Coast Flyer is being developed in five project phases. The service lines will consist of the north corridor, southeast corridor, east corridor and southwest corridor and downtown connector. Essentially, connecting Jacksonville - the largest geographical city in the United States into a commuter's super highway. The first service line launched was the north corridor- green line. Once the project is completed with all of the 5 corridors, it will cover around 57 miles of destination travel. This will make it the largest transit system of its kind in the Southeast.

Furthermore, the First Coast Flyer will offer many amenities in their service lines of travel. They will include branded stations, dedicated lanes, traffic signal priority, queue jump, streetscaping and ticket vending machines. The stations will provide displays with real time passenger information, bike racks and safety features like LED lighting. In addition, riders will have free WiFi access throughout their entire trip. The project is supposed to be in full service with all five corridors in 2019.

We are excited to hear that this inspiring bus system is happening in our local state, Florida. We hope to continue helping transportation companies, like JTA maintain their buses running at top performance. In return, they are able to provide a better service and experience to riders.
