St. Joseph School
Our mission is to create a faith-centered community that educates and inspires students to reach their God-given potential.

A Note from the Principal
I'm happy to announce that we've hired Thuc-Nhu Vu to teach 6th-grade math/religion. Thuc has spent the last four years teaching 6th- 8th grade math and science at St. Bernadette Parish School and prior to that she taught at Holy Cross College Preparatory Academy in California. Thuc received a BS in Computer Science with a heavy emphasis on mathematics from the University of Dallas and a MIT from the University of Portland. She began her career by teaching in the PACE program with Andrew LeTellier (current 7th grade teacher). Thuc is a parishioner, passionate about teaching math, and excited to share her passion with St. Joseph school.

We will have a couple more open positions for 2017-18. This week, Meg Wolfe let me know that she's accepted a position as Middle School Learning Resources Coordinator at Lakeside. Sally Sue McDonald notified me yesterday that she will be working for the Bellevue School District on one of their high school education teams. I'm grateful, as I know you are, for the contributions that Sally Sue and Meg have made to St. Joseph School. We'll miss them, but of course wish them well as they move on to other professional pursuits.

I know I'll see many of you today at the annual golf tournament to support the Endowment for St. Joseph School. Please pray for good weather and that the principal can make some putts!

Enjoy the weekend,

Ex Libris: Lines from the Library

End-of-Year Library Dates
As the end of the school year approaches, we need to round up all library books for inventory purposes. Doing inventory means scanning every book on the shelves to see what's missing and needs to be replaced for the following school year. Here are the dates to note:

Last day for book check out: May 26th

All books due: June 2nd

Thank you for helping us to get the books back on the shelves!

Avoid the Summer Reading Slide
It goes without saying that students should read over the summer months to maintain or enhance their reading level. Please read the document produced by PBS to learn why summer reading is vital.

Summer Reading Lists
Following St. Joseph library tradition, I will produce summer reading lists for each grade. These will be available on the library website starting in June. If you would like one earlier, please contact me.

Parish Announcements
Our beautiful art-deco Church with its bell tower has served us well since it was built in 1929. Through the generosity of many over several years, the interior needs of our church building have largely been taken care of. The pews were replaced, the altar was reconfigured, new lighting was installed, and many of our stained glass windows were repaired and protected. However, the exterior of our church is showing the ravages of the Northwest weather.

Urgent Needs:
  • Repair of the St. Cecelia and Coronation of Mary Stained Glass Windows - $250,000
  • Repair and Painting of Building Exterior - $1,095,000
  • Repair of Bell Tower Roof Membrane and Lighting - $100,000
  • Replace Outdated Boiler Controls - $100,000
  • Replace the Parish Bus - $60,000
