DISTILLERY NEWS
January 2017
Dear Friend of FLD:

Happy New Year - we hope 2017 is off to a great start for all of you! People assume that the winter months are pretty slow in the Finger Lakes, and while the tourist traffic does decline quite a bit, I can assure you we have plenty of work to do here at FLD.

On the production front, we recently distilled almost 17,000 gallons of wine that will be used for brandy, vodka, gin, liqueurs and Yobo Soju. We quickly switched back to our regular whiskey production and continue to stock our warehouse with Bourbon, Rye and some other future surprises.

I was amazed at the response we got from our new marketing video. We received over 5,000 views and connected with over 15,000 people on social media. We appreciate all the feedback.

Now for the fun stuff...as promised, take a look at our next video that was produced as part of this project.

Even though the weather is a bit unpredictable in the Finger Lakes right now, I would highly suggest a winter visit if you have the time. Seneca Lake takes on a different kind of beauty this time of year and establishments are less crowded, so you can take more time to chat with tasting room staff members and can sometimes even engage directly with the makers of our local wine, beer, cider and, of course, spirits.

Hope to see you soon,

The Great Pot Still Experiment

We always have fun with our jobs here at FLD, but every once in a while we find an opportunity to play around and even conduct an experiment or two. Our McKenzie Pure Pot Still Whiskey is a hit in the tasting room, and the production process for this whiskey takes a unique twist in the fermenter, where the residual grain particles float to the top of the tank and form an extra thick layer called a grain cap. We thought we would test these barley-filled waters to see how much weight the grain cap could support before it caved in. Check out our newest blog post to see our Great Pot Still Experiment!

ChoicesThere's Something for Everyone at FLD

New visitors to Finger Lakes Distilling are always amazed by our extensive product line. Yes, we are known for our delicious McKenzie Whiskeys, but there's so much more to FLD. We love being able to cater to all different tastes. From the light neutral flavor of our low proof Yobo Soju to the robust flavor and distinct burn of our Riesling Grappa, there really is something for everyone at Finger Lakes Distilling. To help spread this message (and show our humorous side), our friends at Blacksmith Collective created this gem for our video library. Enjoy!
