New news for today....  Wednesday, December 7th

The timeline to place an order for "Ad for Grad" and put an additional picture of your child in the yearbook is coming to  a close.  January 6th is the deadline for getting your ad into the yearbook by emailing pictures and a message to  yearbook@flaschools.org.  Please remember to place your order for your yearbook, if you have not already done so, by  clicking here.

Past but Pertinent......

Do you remember the devastation in Haiti from Hurricane Matthew?  Help Student Council and the WE Day organization send money to rebuild schools and clinics for those in Haiti.  How? This Friday...you can pay $1.00 to wear your hat and $1.00 for a cup of Hot Cocoa at each entrance when you coem to school.  Enjoy a little warmth and have a little fun all for a good cause!

The Sadie Hawkin's Dance is Friday, December 16th from 8-11pm in the Cafeteria. The theme is black light...so pull out those white shirts or find those neon pants!  Tickets will be available Tuesday-Friday next week for $1.00 at lunches (that's correct - $1.00 as a fun "reward" for all you do at FLHS) and $5.00 at the door. Let's come together and have a fun dance before the winter break.

Need help with a paper? Want to polish an essay? Come to the Writing Center on Wednesday before and after school or Thursday after school and get some help! On Wednesday we are in room 375 and on Thursday we are in room 315. If you have any questions, see Ms. Madson, Ms. Ungerecht, or Ms. Harden. See you there!

The next Music Boosters meeting will be Thursday, December 8th at 7:30 in the high school choir room.   All 9th through 12th grade students and their parents are welcome!  
Attention all students participating in the Inauguration Tour in Washington, D.C. in January:  There will be a mandatory group meeting for all participants and their parent(s)/guardian(s) on Tuesday, December 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the Forest Lake Area High School Media Center!  Contact  Ms. Stennes-Rogness if you have questions or concerns.

Adopt-a-family is going well and thanks to your help we are collecting a lot of good donations!  As of December 2nd the top three first hours are: Mr. Cole room 335, Ms. Harden room 315 and Mrs. Ward room 511. Remember, our last pick up with be this Friday the 9th. Please continue to fill those boxes in your first hours! The top three will be receiving a breakfast! Thank you for your support!!

Semester 2 parking permit applications will be available to apply on  FeePay (on a parent's SchoolView account).   Because of our limited spaces please apply early.

Join the FFA on Thursday, December 8th for our monthly meeting and Holiday Party from 2:45 PM -4:30 PM. Stop by for snacks, a gingerbread house decorating contest, & holiday games. Bring your friends and we'll see you in Ag Room 511!

College visits coming up are:

Tutoring will only be offered to students enrolled in classes at the high school (we have some 9th graders and ALC students).
Here is the schedule:
Mondays,  2:40:-4:30   Math/Spanish and French
Tuesdays,  2:40-4:30 Social Studies/ Math and Chemistry
Wednesdays  2:40-3:30 Chemistry
Thursdays  2:40-4:30 Math/Bio/general sciences

We will also offer tutoring  Monday- Thursday mornings from  7:00-7:55.  These sessions must be set up in advance.

Rally around the Rangers
"Go Rangers!"

Girls Hockey:  While the girls hockey team fought hard, they lost their battle on the road 3-1, to #3 ranked Breck last week, with junior Kayla Kasel sneaking in a goal. Two short days later the Rangers traveled to Roseville. Josie Bothun had her second shut out of the season in only 4 games. Kenzie Rugland, Maddie Kolbow & Madi Nolan all put points on the board with Ashley Mills, Rachel Golnitz and Courtney Peterson assisting. The girls play in Cottage Grove on Tuesday the 6th and at Cretin on Saturday the 10th. They can't wait to get in front of their favorite hometown crowd on Tuesday, December 13th.

Boys Basketball:  It was another nail bitter Tuesday night, thank you all for coming out and supporting your Ranger basketball-Please join us Thursday evening for the Ranger boys game against the Blaine Bengals.  Having a full student section again will be wonderful!  JV and B squad starting 5:45, with Varsity at 7:15.  Come cheer on your Ranger boys! Linwood Pizza is once again providing a couple of free pizzas that you have a chance to win!  Pizza and basketball, what a great combination! GO RANGERS!

Girls Basketball: Congratulations to the Girls 10 th  grade, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams on their decisive wins last Friday night against section rival Coon Rapids! Next up is Mounds View on Friday, December 9 th.

School calendar change coming 2017

A calendar shift has been approved by the school board for the 2017-2018 school year. In 2017, the first day of school will be  August 21st and the last day of school in the spring of 2018 will be May 23rd, two weeks earlier than usual. This one-year calendar adjustment will allow extra time in the summer to complete construction projects at many of the district's buildings without disrupting student learning.
The school year calendar returns to normal in 2018-2019, with the first day of school scheduled after labor day and the last day scheduled for early June.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to upgrade learning spaces around the district.
