This Thursday, February 2nd, is one of the 2 nights of registration for the 2017-2018 school year for all current 9th, 10th & 11th graders. There were letters sent home listing the steps to follow.  If you have any questions, please visit the HS homepage for a copy of the letter.

Time is running out! This week is the last chance to pre-order a yearbook. Find the link on the HS homepage under "Parents" and "Yearbook Opportunities".

The musicians in Cantorei, Sinfonia Orchestra and Symphonic Winds
would love it if you could be in the audience for the SEC Preview Concert 
on Monday at 7 PM.  The concert will be three fifteen minute programs and will be done in under an hour.   Please come out and support the musicians!

MSU Moorhead is offering four $2,500 scholarships and two $1,000 scholarships to students who use Twitter to share why they are excited to #BeADragon. This scholarship contest ends on March 3rd. The four $2,500 scholarships will be awarded based on creativity, one $1,000 scholarship goes to the student with the most likes, and one $1,000 scholarship will go to the student with the most retweets.  Students can find out more about this scholarship and the scholarship rules at  www.mnstate.edu/BeADragon.

2017 Twin Cities Scholarship - Incoming Freshmen Only
The WAA: Twin Cities Chapter is offering scholarships to current high school seniors who will be pursuing a degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Students must have been accepted at the UW and currently attending a high school within the Twin Cities 7-county metro area (Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott and Washington).
Scholarships are based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to academic achievement, community participation and leadership, and financial need. Scholarship amounts vary. Awards are paid directly to UW and applied toward tuition.

Please join us on February 23rd from 1-4 in our Field House for our annual "College and Career Fair"!  
Some of the folks that will be here are: Dunwoody, Aveda, Stout, St Kates, Century, Pipefitters Union, U of M, National Guard, Bethel, Fairview, Alex Tech, Hamline, Concordia, Anoka Tech, NDSU, the Marines and many, many more.

Tutoring will only be offered to students enrolled in classes at the high school (we have some 9th graders and ALC students).
Here is the schedule:
Mondays,  2:40:-4:30   Math/Spanish and French
Tuesdays,  2:40-4:30 Social Studies/ Math and Chemistry
Wednesdays  2:40-3:30 Chemistry
Thursdays  2:40-4:30 Math/Bio/general sciences

We will also offer tutoring  Monday- Thursday mornings from  7:00-7:55.  These sessions must be set up in advance.

Registration for the 2017-2018 School Year

Dates to remember:
  • January 18, 2017: Materials given to 10th/11th grade students in advisory with a slide presentation
  • January 18-27, 2017: Materials given to CJHS and SWJH 9th graders with a slide presentation
  • January 31, 2017: Parent information session @ 6:30 pm - FLHS Auditorium
  • February 2 or 8: Open house registration - Select one evening to register between 4-8 pm. Parents and students must attend together. The evening's first stop will be a quick visit to the classroom of the student's advisory teacher. (Advisory teacher and room number are listed on the registration letter mailed to each student) The second stop is a check-in with the student's dean outside the media center. The final stop is at a computer in the Media Center to enter course requests.

  • This opportunity provides information on:
    • Graduation Requirements
    • Advice for Academic Planning
    • Academic Programs & suggestions on course selection
    • College Credit Opportunities
    • General high school expectations
  • Deans will be available to answer individual questions, following the presentation.
Registration Open House
(February 2nd or 8th)

  • Students and parents pick one of the two nights to attend.
  • Come anytime between 4 pm and 8 pm.
  • Meet with advisor, dean, and then complete computer registration.
  • More details how to prepare are below.
Registration Night Check List
Before You Arrive to Register: 
  • Complete the front page of the registration worksheet completely.
  • Students should include 14 courses selections and 5 alternates. (Courses that require 2 spaces count as 2 courses.)
  • Make sure a career interest is listed to help facilitate discussion of course selections.
  • Parents should sign the registration sheets allowing for release of student transcripts.
On the Night of Registration:

  • Begin with the student's advisory teacher. The advisory teacher will: 
    • answer questions as they are able
    • review that worksheets are complete and correct
    • talk with students/parents about the student's plan for the future
    • sign-off on worksheets, and send parents/students to meet with their dean.
  • Students/parents will have a brief meeting with their deans to:
    • answer questions that remain
    • review registration worksheets
    • make additional suggestions as appropriate
  • Students will then  move to computers to input their final registration selections and alternates. When students have entered all requests, they'll be asked to:
    • Tear off the back page of the registration worksheet to keep as their record. (Another option would be to take a picture of the back page and turn in the entire worksheet)
    • Turn in their course request worksheet before leaving. Deans keep those copies for reference.
    • Students do NOT need to print a copy of their course requests. That information should be filled out on the back page of the worksheet.

Clay Target - The Forest Lake High School Clay Target team will hold a Parent and student athlete Information  meeting in the High School  Media Center  on Tuesday January 24 starting at 6:30pm. There will be new policies and procedures  put in place, so plan to attend.  Contact Coach Spears in Room 357 for more information or Head Coach Madison at dmad@midco.net.

MN Firearm Safety - Get your firearm safety certification by signing up for this upcoming class! Don't miss out, spots are filling fast!

Forest Lake Area School's American Indian Education Program has begun and is open to Native students interested in learning more about our Native American culture and heritage.  Meetings are Thursdays after school from 2:45-4:30 at the high school in room 544.   Students can take the activity bus home.  Each week there will be an activity or project focused on the past, present and future of Native American history, culture and current events.   If you have any questions please contact us.

School calendar change coming 2017

A calendar shift has been approved by the school board for the 2017-2018 school year. In 2017, the first day of school will be  August 21st and the last day of school in the spring of 2018 will be May 23rd, two weeks earlier than usual. This one-year calendar adjustment will allow extra time in the summer to complete construction projects at many of the district's buildings without disrupting student learning.
The school year calendar returns to normal in 2018-2019, with the first day of school scheduled after labor day and the last day scheduled for early June.
