Hey Ranger Readers. Some of your favorite authors are coming to town. Join in a free event at the Washington County Library in Woodbury to see Kami Garcia, Marissa Meyer, Emma Mills, & Caleb Roehrig on Thursday, October 6th . See Mrs. Brockman in the media center for more information, or to check out some of their awesome books!

Interested in joining the Forest Lake Alpine Ski Team?  Please come to an informational parent and skier meeting on October 4th at 6:30 in the choir room (#545) at the high school.  Coaches, parents and currents skiers will be there to answer questions and talk about the upcoming ski season.  Students in grades 7-12 are welcome to join with racing experience.  Please contact Patti Alberg at 651-245-4100 with questions.

Interested in robots or electronics? Our Robotics Team is meeting today in room 123 after school with a new Electronics Mentor. Come check out the robot and meet the new mentor! Maybe get the chance to drive the robot!

The Naval Academy, West Point and the Air Force Academy as well as the Merchant Marine Academy all provide a wonderful opportunity for students to receive a free college education and also participate in service to their country.   If this is something you are interested in, please see Heather in the media center for an application.

On October 11th from 6-8:30 in the high school media center, Tom Larson from Thrivent Financial will be with us to present "Secret tips for saving on college costs!" This is Tom's 4th year talking with Forest Lake students and parents.  Space is limited so if you plan to attend, please RSVP to  hkarstens@flaschools.org.

Hey Sophomores, want to join a fun leadership group? Consider joining SADD.  SADD is a student lead organization that is passionate about influencing themselves and others to make better decisions about everyday challenges.  Talk to Ms. Frericks in room 122 for more details.

LAYSB is hosting a FREE Personal Finance program for teens in 8th -12th grade! You will get an opportunity to learn from local bankers about the importance of saving, how to create a spending plan, and get information on credit, debt, and identity protection. Tutoring will officially begin  Tuesday, October 11th
Tutoring will only be offered to students enrolled in classes at the high school (we have some 9th graders and ALC students).
Here is the schedule:
Mondays,  2:40:-4:30   Math/Spanish and French
Tuesdays,  2:40-4:30 Social Studies/ Math and Chemistry
Wednesdays  2:40-3:30 Chemistry
Thursdays  2:40-4:30 Math/Bio/general sciences

We will also offer tutoring  Monday- Thursday mornings from  7:00-7:55.  These sessions must be set up in advance.
Occupational Opportunities.....

On Broadway Car Wash is looking for a cashier/barista. This job entails working at a register ringing up car washes, making beverages for customers, and renting out U-Haul trucks. We are looking for someone reliable, motivated, and well organized. Must have good computer skills and money management skills. Hours are one week working Mon.- Wed. 
3-6 PM and the next week working Saturday 8-6 and Sunday 9-5. So, working every other weekend and every other week. Great for a very RESPONSIBLE and very RELIABLE high school student- you could even bring in your school work to do in between car wash customers! Boys Soccer:  Please come & cheer for the Boys Soccer team as they host Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday. The JV team starts at 4:15 at FLHS Schumacher Baseball Field and the Varsity team plays at the FLHS Varsity Stadium starting at 7PM. Loud cheering is highly encouraged!

Volleyball:  FLHS Volleyball Players and Coaches Appreciate You ~ You are invited to attend TEACHER and STAFF APPRECIATION NIGHT at the Forest Lake Rangers home Volleyball game against Stillwater on Tuesday, September 27th, 2016 The B-Squad and Junior Varsity games begin at 5:30 pm with the Varsity game following at 7:00 pm. All district teachers and staff along with one guest will be admitted free with your ID badge on this day. If you are able to make it to the game, be sure to stop by the "check in" table. Rumor has it there is going to be chocolate again this year. We hope to see you at the games; let's try to pack the gyms with the best school district employees around! This event allows players to recognize a teacher/staff member that made a difference in their life. The player name and the person they are honoring is listed below. A special congratulations to these teachers!

Community Ed is offering a two session ACT prep course called PrepStar Blast starting on  Mon, Oct 10 .  It's a great opportunity for students to have a crash course on preparing for the ACT.
