Program Description :  The Great Debate tests and improves your written and verbal communication skills. You will engage in discussions and debates about issues affecting today's Latino community. The week long program helps you gain experience in public speaking and the role it plays in leadership.

Camp Enterprise

Program Description :  Camp Enterprise provides a first-hand, practical introduction to the business world for selected high school juniors who have demonstrated leadership potential at their individual schools. The camp is an intensive three-day program of instruction, guest speakers, competition, and team-work. Participating students are introduced to the challenges and opportunities of a free enterprise system, and engage in activities such as managing a business and completing an obstacle course. It is literally a camp, taking place at Camp Allen near Navasota, about 40 miles from Houston. Fun outdoor activities and games are a part of the weekend as well.

SATURDAY MORNING SCIENCE

Program Description :  This program is aimed to motivate students from the 7th to the 12th grade, to reach their highest potential. We emphasize the importance of a good, solid education and expose them to summer enrichment programs and careers in the biosciences.

Topics of discussion have included Cell Biology and Histology; Anatomy-lecture and lab; Study Skills & Collaborative Learning; Structural Biology of Macromolecular Imaging; Exploration of the Teenage Brain and Emotions, Body Composition and Nutrition; Total Knee Replacement; and Choosing a Good College.

STUDENT CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION SCHOOL YEAR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

Program Description :  The SCA Houston's School Year Community Crew Program is an active after school and weekends program that runs from December through April. Participants are put into teams [crews!] with other local young conservationists to restore parks, wetlands, natural areas, and urban landscapes. The week night meetings and the weekend service trips include an over night camping trip, environmental education, and team-building and leadership activities. The program also includes environmental education and exploration of green jobs and career opportunities that exist in this region.

Program Description :  Close Up's flagship High School Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students to experience their government in action. From visits to Washington's famous monuments, memorials, and institutions, to meetings with their Congressional delegation on Capitol Hill, Close Up students get a first-hand look at the American political system and consider what role they, as students, play in our democracy.

LEADING THE WAY GRAND CANYON SOUND ACADEMY

Program Description :  A group of 20 teenagers from across the U.S. will be selected to journey into the heart of Grand Canyon, learning about the importance of natural sounds, participating in meaningful science, learning about career opportunities with the National Park Service, and honing their leadership strengths. At the end of this transformative expedition, students emerge as leaders ready to face personal and global barriers with passion and perseverance and inspired and equipped to be the next generation of ambassadors for the National Park Service.

BANK OF AMERICA STUDENT LEADERS PROGRAM

Program Description :  Since its inception in 2005, the Bank of America Student LeadersĀ® Program has recognized more than 2,200 exemplary high school juniors and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities.  The
Program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and helps develop them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:
  • A summer eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization selected by the bank.  This internship is designed to provide opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work
Experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their Host Organization.
  • The week-long, all-expense paid Student leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 10-15, 2016. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.
