Todd J. Albert, MD, surgeon-in-chief and Medical Director and Korein-Wilson Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery, son of Earl A.       As the holidays approach, my thoughts extend to every member of the NYCPM/FCNY family: to current students, faculty and staff members, to alumni in the United States and around the world, as well as to our community neighbors, whom we have had the privilege to serve for over 100 years.

      I am very grateful for everyone's accomplishments and efforts towards keeping NYCPM/FCNY in the forefront of podiatric education and care, and I want to wish you all a happy, healthy and safe holiday season filled with joy and the warmth of family and friends.

Kathleen Reilly Fallon, DPM ('94), LHD ...

 

... is a Board-Certified Wound Care Specialist and Foot & Ankle Specialist. She has worked at the Midtown Health Center in Manhattan for the last 16 years. For over 10 years she has worked at St. Vincent's Midtown Hospital and the St. Vincent's Family Health Center as a doctor/surgeon, as well as a Clinical Supervisor, Department of Surgery. She has lectured at St. Vincent's for Medical Grand Rounds, and served on the hospital's Executive Board. She is also an Executive Board member of the New York State Chapter - Northern Metro Division of the March of Dimes, and is Chairwoman of Heavenly Productions Foundation. She has authored several medical journal articles and published two books. In June of 2013, she received an award from the Knights of York for her service to the community.

     Dr. Reilly Fallon was born in New York City, received her undergraduate degree from the College of New Rochelle, and studied at Oxford and Cambridge Universities, and at the University of London-Imperial College.  She earned her DPM degree from NYCPM in 1994, and received an honorary degree from NYCPM in 2013.

Alumni Relations Association Sets Goals Aimed at Supporting Students, Engaging Alumni
  

  

With new energy, a new Board, five meetings concluded, and committee assignments distributed, the Alumni Relations Association (ARA) is ready to work for NYCPM alumni, students, and friends of the College.

     The Board members are: Nicholas Argerakis, DPM ('09); Jennifer D'Amico, DPM ('07); Brian Dawson, DPM ('09); Arthur Gudeon, DPM ('60); Jonathan Haber, DPM ('74), Chair; Stanley Idiculla, DPM ('04); Anthony Iorio, DPM, ('81); Jonathan Levy, DPM ('09); Ami Parikh, DPM ('06); Andrew Shapiro, DPM ('86). Desander M�s is VP & Alumni Liaison.

     The first purpose of the ARA itself is to "promote and support the general welfare of the College and its students." Donation of Historic Podiatry Instruments Added to NYCPM's Growing Museum

 

 

Philip J. Obiedzinski, DPM ('80), who practices in Rutherford, NJ, has donated instruments from the office of the late Dr. Samuel Ludwig, who had a solo practice in Rutherford from 1936-76. According to Desander M�s, VP Operations and Alumni Liaison, the instruments will be displayed in a new showcase along with those of Dr. Bertha Williams ('31), and other historical memorabilia the College has collected. Dr. Obiedzinski was a resident at NYCPM/FCNY from 1980-82. He took over Dr. Ludwig's practice in 1982 after another doctor had succeeded Dr. Ludwig for six years.

Activity Next Door Presages Something Big

 

Continuum Partners, the development company that owns 1800 Park Avenue, the formerly vacant property east of the school, has posted a rendering of what its project will ultimately look like, above. The poster predicts a Spring 2015 completion for the 32-floor apartment building.

Podiatry "Second Highest Paying Healthcare Profession:" Survey
According to
PM News, which cited
Forbes as its source, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine has been listed as the second highest paying healthcare job on a list released by CareerCast, a job search website in California. According to Tony Lee,publisher of CareerCast, "There aren't enough podiatrists to fill all the positions." He cited a projected growth rate of 23% by 2022.

Simon M. Nzuzi, DPM ('79) to Retire at Year's End

Simon M. Nzuzi, DPM ('79), Professor of Community Health and Medicine at NYCPM since 1981, will retire at the end of the year. In addition to teaching, his research interests have been Laser Therapy for Onychomycosis, and Nail Diseases. He has also been very active in the community, including service as Chairman of the Board of Christ Church United Methodist on East 61st Street. We wish him well!
