FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Soap Factory Presents its 2016 Program Year

MINNEAPOLIS

The Soap Factory returns in 2016 with an artist residency program, the celebration of a milestone anniversary and two new exhibitions!

The Soap Factory's Emerging Artist Residency Program
May 1st - Sept 23rd

The Soap Factory would like to introduce an exciting new summer program as we open our doors and invite local emerging artists to experiment in our space!

This new opportunity for artists consists of five month-long residencies that take place from May until September 2016. Each month, our three galleries will be occupied by emerging artists, appointed and mentored by 15 different Soap Factory alumni artists and curators. These artists-in-residence will be allowed to make new work directly in the space, responding to the gallery environment and to one another. At the end of each residency we will be hosting a public opening. Dates and other public programming TBA.

The Haunted Basement
September 23rd - October 31st

2016 marks the milestone 10th anniversary of The Soap Factory's Haunted Basement and to celebrate, we plan on breaking ALL the rules.

The baton has been handed over to Director and long time Haunted Basement artist Christopher Barton as well as Associate Director Walker Friend, who have been brought on board to create and curate the most horrifying Haunted Basement experience yet - incorporating new nightmares only we can conjure along with some old favorites we just CAN'T let you forget - no matter how hard you've tried.

The Haunted Basement will take place throughout the entirety of The Soap Factory's basement and first floor gallery spaces. Included in this will be a retrospective exhibition showcasing the artistry of the project over the course of the last 10 years. And, with this much freedom, who knows where patrons will find themselves.....or what they'll encounter when they get there.

Included again this year will be an opportunity for patrons to experience the Haunted Basement solo through our Blind Invocation ritual. Those brave enough to take this plunge will be rewarded with hidden Easter Egg environments and extra special treatment from our basement Creeps.

The Haunted Basement kicks off its 10th Anniversary year on April 9th with an un-gala fundraiser at Squirrel Haus Arts. More information can be found here: http://www.soapfactory.org/exhibit.php?content_id=743
