Greetings from Wilno/Maynooth where Jennis is currently playing. We are enjoying the gorgeous fall colors on display here. We just finished a concert on Thursday in Sudbury, my home town. It was fun to reconnect with a bunch of my old friends who came out to see Jennis. We have a big gig in Toronto on Oct. 11 at Hugh's Room - we'd love to see you there. See details below.
This month's article is the second of the Qabala portion of the series - 'Chakras and the Tree of Life' - seeking an understanding of the way that we humans interface with the vibrational universe. It summarizes the Qabalic concept of the Four Worlds.

CHAKRAS AND THE TREE OF LIFE
PART 15 - FOUR WORLDS OF THE QABALA
As previously mentioned, there are many aspects of the Qabala that correspond closely with the information in the Tantras. According to Qabalistic cosmology, the universe consists of four different yet inseparable levels or 'worlds'. This is similar to the four levels of 'substance' in
Tantric
philosophy - the mental, astral, etheric and physical bodies. The four worlds correspond to the four divisions of the Tree of Life (discussed in the last newsletter), three triads and the Malkuth.
The first world/level is the least dense, the most subtle, and is the direct emanation from En Soph (Brahman/Tao). This primordial void is said to be inhabited by archangels Metatron, Raziel and Tzaphqiel. The second, called the 'Briatic' world is slightly less subtle and constitutes the world of pure spirit. It is inhabited by the archangels Tzadqiel, Kamael and Raphael. Less subtle yet is the 'Yetziratic' world, the residence of the angels. It is governed by archangels, Haniel, Michael and Gabriel. (Gabriel is said to be the same entity as Thoth/Hermes, incarnating as many avatars throughout history, including Jesus.) The densest, least subtle realm is Malkuth, the world of action or matter, which contains the ten 'hells' and is the abode of mankind/the beast. The corresponding archangel is Sandalphon.
We can see the similarity with the chakra system in that the path from top to bottom, from the first world to the fourth, represents the manifestation of reality from the source of consciousness or divine intent, to the physical, material realm. Accordingly, the path from bottom to top represents the way to enlightenment, often called the path of the serpent. As consciousness awakens or expands, it tends to move from the densest to the least dense aspects of reality.
There are actually three ascending pathways, corresponding to the three 'pillars' of the Tree of Life. Up the right side of victory/mercy/wisdom toward divinity is sometimes called the way of the saint. Up the left side of splendor/severity/knowledge toward the same divinity is sometimes called the way of the dark magician. The safest path, recommended to most people, is the one up the middle, through kingdom/foundation/beauty, sometimes called the pillar of mildness. This path would be one of balance, most suitable to 'everyday life'.
The Tree of Life, with its four worlds, is a metaphor for the nature of the universe in its entirety, as well as for its component parts. It is said that the nature of the universe is holographic - that energy manifests in its micro-forms according to the same patterns as it manifests in its macro-form, as expressed in the famous Hermetic axiom, 'as above so below'.
