Hello fellow FPA members,

This email is to follow up on our previous invitation to join us in visiting our respective California state legislators in their home district offices during our  "Advocacy Week" of September 14th to 18th.  The full details of our previous email are below, in the meantime here is additional information you will need if you are planning to participate (and do let us know if you are going, by the RSVP information below).

Information for Making Appointments:  They will either make the appointment there on the phone, or they will ask you to put your request in an email.  Click here for a link to the telephone and email scripts that can be used when scheduling your appointments.  As soon as your appointment is made, email [email protected] to let us know so that we can coordinate with other FPA members who may be in your Assembly or Senate district.

If you would like to listen to an audio recording of how to make the call to a state legislator's office, click here.  It really is a simple process and the scripts lay out all the information you need to make the phone call.

Upcoming Training Webinar: Below is the Go To Meeting call in, or logon, information to join the FPA of CA Advocacy Week training webinar.  This webinar is intended to prepare everyone for the legislator visits in the district offices in advance of  our Advocacy week of September 14th through 18th.  The meeting WILL be recorded so that the training will be available up until Advocacy Week (and for future use).

Alice King will host the meeting and our speaker Karen Nystrom on the Go To Meeting software.  In case of technical issues during the meeting, you can reach Alice via her cell at (415) 509-3424 or email [email protected].

Your FPA of California Council wants YOU!

Yes, we want you to take advantage of our newest initiative, FPA of California Advocacy Week. We invite you to join us during the week of September 14th through 18th to engage locally with your state senator and/or assemblymember. During this week, your legislative employees will be at home in their respective districts and you have the opportunity to meet with them (free of the cost and time to go to Sacramento) and introduce yourself and FPA of California to them.

We have found during previous advocacy visits that representatives and staff are generally open to hearing about financial planning and how we are different from others in the financial services world. (We will, of course, also continue our annual, traditional "Day on the Hill" in Sacramento, next planned for March 8, 2016.)

Why take time from your busy practice to set up an appointment and go visit? Like anything in your life or business, RELATIONSHIPS matter and these meetings build stronger relationships with elected officials and their staff members. When issues do arise (and they will), we will be more effective in influencing the outcome if we already have those relationships in place.

We will provide you with training, a script to use for obtaining an appointment, and talking points and materials to bring with you to your meeting. To make things even easier, here is a link to find your California elected official based on your district of residence (once on their website, click on the Contact Us tab)

L et us know ASAP  if you'd like to participate. Include the names of your Assemblyperson and/or Senator in your RSVP and email it to: Holly Wilkerson, Executive Director at [email protected] .  If more than one member plans to visit the same district office, we'll let you know so that you may coordinate your visit(s).

M
ark your calendar now and plan to participate and enjoy an interesting experience in support of our profession. We look forward to a successful Advocacy Week!

Sincerely,

Curt Weil, CFP®
President, FPA of California
