Children's Books Merit Grown-up Conversation
Part 1: Visual Literacy and The Picture Book
Tuesday, March 7, 7:00-8:00 pm
Part 2: Evaluating Picture Book Art and Text
Thursday, March 9, 7:00-8:00 pm
Not only are picture books usually a child's first introduction to words and stories, but they are also their first introduction to art. Visual literacy is just as important to a child's development as traditional literacy; it is through those picture book images that children really start to visualize stories and understand the world around them. This program offers adults the opportunity to learn and discuss what picture books have to offer both children and adults. Part 1 covers the dual audience of children's books, a brief history of picture books and an introduction to the language of the field. Part 2 explores specific titles and art styles.  Please register.
