WINE COUNTRY

For us, this season represents New York City's best time of year--the air holds an early Fall chill that hides in the shadows of skyscrapers, but the sun is still shining bright and warm. It's skirt weather, but sandals have been traded in for boots, and all air conditioning is officially retired. Sweaters are finding their way out of storage, as are cable needles. It's time for manufactured warmth--woolies and textured knitting and bulky, blooming yarns.

New Fall yarn ARIA is made for this time of year. Fall and Winter demand textured knits, and textured knits demand excellent stitch definition and memory, and ARIA delivers on all those things. Composed of a wool/nylon blend, ARIA is a bulky-weight, rounded tape yarn with a good amount of springiness. In the Wine Country Tunic (above), a large, winding center cable is beautifully defined in ARIA, and perfectly framed by border ribbing and stockinette. The free Wine Country Cowl (above and below right) features a fabulous lacy honeycomb-like stitch, also beautifully articulated in ARIA. The Wine Country Tunic is especially suited for this season—best worn over leggings or tights and tall boots, it's a go-to cold weather outfit!

ARIA makes a few appearances in the FALL GETAWAYS COLLECTION, with each garment a fantastic example of how wonderfully ARIA handles texture and complex stitchwork. Individual stitches pop crisp and clean on the fabric, and are never muddy. See the Cape Cod Fitted Pullover, the Snowbird Hooded Vest, and the Orchard Mock Cable Vest (also below) on pinterest for detailed views--remember to click on the images again for an even closer view!

The Wine Country Tunic can be purchased online, at your LYS, or by clicking the "BUY NOW" button above!

DESIGN NOTE: The rhythmic knitting of stockinette stitch, reverse stockinette stitch, and an oversized cable in the Wine Country Tunic keeps the knitter engaged, as does the intricate, yet simple, Tranquility stitch used in the cowl. The Wine Country Cowl only requires 3 balls, but if you're making a size Small or X-Large in the tunic, you'll only need 2 extra balls to make the cowl!

DESIGNER QUOTE: "Is there anything better for Fall than a cozy cabled tunic? I love how wearable this is throughout the seasons--in early Fall, it makes a great dress paired with leggings, but as the weather gets colder, you can just toss it on over pants to keep you toasty. And because ARIA is bulky, it knits up fairly quickly!"–Lynn M. Wilson
