Dear Friend of FPC,

Greetings! I looked out through the window on the work site this last Sunday and I was reminded of the bible passage about building on a firm foundation versus building on the sand. The big hole and accompanying cement make for an ugly sight and it is hard to picture the finished product. But this is also true in our own lives a given snapshot of a moment may catch us not looking our best for Jesus in the journey of faith. Our E100 Bible study on Wednesday also talked about the journey of faith for Abraham. When one reads Hebrews chapter 11, we are presented the more finished product of the faith stories of these Bible heroes. The earlier accounts in Genesis, Exodus and other places reveal Bible characters with flaws, warts and all for us to see. This should offer us hope that God is not finished in any of us yet. The snapshot of any our lives today may reveal a hole in the ground or a pile of rubble, spiritually. God gives us this hope that he will complete the good work of faith in our lives. We do not have the benefit of an artist's rendition of God's finished product for our lives to show us what God is up to but we do know this from scripture: "He who began the good work of faith in our lives will indeed bring it to completion." And again: "When we see Jesus on the other side, we shall be like him, for we will see him as she is." So, the next time you take a look at our hole in the ground or at our pile of rubble, also take a look at your own life and consider what God might be doing to "remodel" your life.

Blessings,

Pastor Nelson

The Jump Start Prayer Gathering Has Begun! Mondays 7-7:30 am

FPC has started a Monday morning prayer gathering called "Jump Start."  Ten of us shared the joy of praying together during our inaugural gathering!

"Jump Start" is held in the chapel from 7-7:30 am. It is a loosely structured prayer gathering that will seek to include the congregation, construction and design crew, neighbors, schools and churches. We will pray for a successful and safe completion of our FPC campus along with any joys and concerns. There are prayer concern books placed by each area of our worship spaces that may be filled out by anyone coming to "Jump Start" or any of our services on Sunday. We will include all prayer concerns during our "Jump Start" service. Jump Start your week with FPC; come and join us with a little one on one with God!

Help People Stay Warm this Winter through Donations to St. Paul's

St. Paul's Community Center has asked for donations of new or gently used coats, socks, towels, hats, and mittens (for adults only please). A large box for donations will be located in the foyer, and another will be on the lower level. Thank you so much for your generous support.

Growth Groups

By now, the Growth Groups have all been meeting for a few months and have built some pretty significant relationships. Each group has its own personality and style with a common group of questions to guide conversation. There is still room for you at a Growth Group. The Growth Groups are not serving as in-depth Bible Study opportunities. If you want such an in-depth Study opportunity, please contact Pastor Clint or Pastor Steve to find a great place to plug in and grow your faith. Just because these groups have been formed and up and running for a bit does not mean that you have missed the opportunity to be a part of what God is doing. Charlotte Davis-Friedman will be forming a new group in the spring at Swan Creek. A young adult Growth Group is in the process of forming and exploring where God is guiding. The existing Growth Groups will begin, at some point this year, to expand and "birth" new groups from the existing ones. God is on the move and is calling you to be a part of what He is doing.

Confirmation

The Confirmation class worked hard to prepare a meal for St. Paul's and when they arrived learned that there had been a miscommunication and another church was already serving. They left the food they had prepared but were disappointed that they did not get to serve. I hope they will participate with their mentors at one of the next weeks that we are scheduled to serve.

This semester we have covered Created for a Purpose led by Kathleen Sheets and What Would You Say, Jesus Christ led by Bryce Harbaugh. Coming up Jason Armstrong will lead the lesson on Sin and Forgiveness, The Grace of God; Margo Leininger will lead the lesson Jesus Christ the Solution to our Sin; Ginny McCook will lead The Holy Spirit and a Relationship with Christ, Getting to Know God; Nancy Fish will lead The Church and its Mission; Rick Secondo will lead The Sacraments and the Lord's Prayer and the last lesson will be Developing a Rule for Life.

Each week the students write a paragraph telling what they believe about the topic they are studying. When they have finished all eight lessons, they put their paragraphs together and it becomes their statement of faith. Watch for them in the late spring or early summer. Confirmation Sunday will be April 22.

From Lois Driver

I think it's time I write a note of thanks to you, the congregation of First Presbyterian. After a month of recuperation from a 4 hour surgery and therapy I was discharged to home only to find a whole group of physical/occupational therapists and nurses wandering in and out of the house at all times of the day. Just about 10 days ago, I got good reports from both surgeon and PC and was told they don't want to see me for 6 months The therapist unit discharged me soon after. These people  couldn't have done their work so well without your help and support which manifested theirselves in so many ways.

I appreciated the prayers and concerns, the cards, phone calls, visits, goodies, and help after I got home. A special thank you to the person(s) who sent the apple fritter home with Ben one Sunday morning. It was so good.

Thank you. So inadequate, but what other words are there for gratitude?

Blessings,

Lois Driver
