Dear Friend of FPC,
Can we trust the words of Jesus to lead us to life abundant? Are we willing, for example, to trust Jesus' words to "forgive our enemy" when every aspect of our being tells us not to? This is the question I raised on Sunday and it is the question that informs my prayer for you, the congregation, frequently. My hope is that as we grow in our knowledge of Jesus we will be able to answer that question, "yes" more and more frequently because we are learning to trust him.
This Sunday the Scripture preached will lead us to consider an opportunity to trust Jesus even though we may not understand what and why he is asking us to do certain things. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6 to "not store up treasures on earth" (v.19) but instead "seek first his kingdom" (v.33) As a way of preparing for worship this Sunday and in seeking to live our faith every day, I invite you to spend time reading and considering this passage over the next few days. Come on Sunday with practical examples in mind of what it might look like to trust Jesus in your every day life.
I pray that you are enjoying the presence of Christ this week and that his presence brings you life to the full!
For His Kingdom, Pastor Clint |

Women's Spring Brunch: Links of Love, May 12, 10 am
Yes, the men are cooking for us again this year!! Please plan to join your sisters in Christ at our annual brunch on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 10 a.m. to noon or so. Our theme of the day is "LINKS OF LOVE" - connecting us with many issues our sisters face in the world today. We will have a program about the Presbyterian Women's mission trip to South Dakota where we were hosted by many Native American sisters who told us of the issues concerning them in their churches and on the reservations. We also have a "surprise" announcement about a local mission that FPC's women hope to become involved with in the near future.
Sign-up sheets will be in the Narthex, the coffee table in Fellowship Hall and on the table in the vestibule of the Chapel. You may also call your reservation into the office.
Hope to see many of you on the 12th. The food will be great, the company greater, and God's blessings greatest.

The New Directories are Here!!
And we want to get a copy to each household in our church family even if you did not have your picture included. They will be available after each of the services on April 15th and April 22nd or if you can't wait, they are available now at the office. As you take your directory, make sure that your name is checked off on the roster so that we can be sure each family gets a copy. Thanks to the many people who helped with this important project especially Kathleen Sheets, Susan Platz, John Pike and Dave Saunders. Now we will be able to put names to familiar faces but also learn more about our church, our history, our ministries and our vision of Connecting Christ with Community.

Family Ministry
On Palm Sunday, our children and a few of our youth who helped with the youngest of our children, processed into the Sanctuary with palms held high in rememberance of Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. They also heard a story about a camel called Humphrey's First Palm Sunday and they sang a wonderful song called The Blind Man.
There was also lots of egg-citement on Wednesday, April 4th as our children and youth participated in some fun Easter activities. We sang some songs, made resurrectioneggs, colored Easter magnets, heard a story and finally had an EGG HUNT! Great fun was had by all and a big thank you to all those who helped make it a fun event!
Upcoming: On Wednesday evenings we will complete our Easter study and begin studying Paul, Peter, and many of the stories found in the Acts of the Apostles. On Sunday morning during Children of God Bible Time we will continue to hear stories from the New Testament and to learn about the church calendar. We are working our way to Pentecost, the third big Christian day of celebration!

Deacons
The Deacons are on the move this spring. After the Easter service, the lilies that had blessed and decorated chapel and sanctuary were taken to our homebound members to brighten their day and encourage them. Spring and flowers remind us of God's resurrection power and blessing. Even as the church building is being renewed, the deacons are busy looking at ways to improve and update our welcome and follow-up materials that are handed out from our hospitality and welcome tables. The deacons want to remind all of the church members that it is all of our "jobs" to welcome and greet newcomers as well as to care for long-time members who have missed at First Presbyterian Church. There is a reason why God reveals to you that someone you know has missed church; it isn't to merely talk or think about. It is so that you can pray for and be a part of helping people know that they matter and are missed. This isn't so we can heap guilt on people but rather so we can tangibly show that we care. When you notice someone new at Church it isn't just a curiosity or how about that moment; it is so that you can add a heartfelt greeting and welcome that could well be the very thing that blesses a newcomer or visitor and helps them to realize that coming to this church is like finding your way back home. So, get involved and open your eyes, ears and hearts to what God is doing around about you in Church. Really "pass the peace" during the service and help newcomers and regulars alike recognize the presence of God in our midst. Don't be shy. Now that you have a new pictorial church directory, study it with new eyes and pray for one another. Perhaps you were meant to become a deacon, pray about it. God is on the move; join Him.

Construction Update
Your Project Team reports that the remodeling is proceeding well and is going according to plan and schedule. The new walls for most of the interior rooms are in place and drywall is starting to be applied. The new windows have been installed and the cement board siding on the back of the church is being installed. The concrete floors have been poured and the electricians have most of the rough-in work done. The heating and air conditioning work is well on its way as well as most of the pluming. The crews are now working on the back entrance and stairwells.
During the next several weeks, the crews should be turning their attention to the front and rear entryways and later in May, the parking lot. These are exciting times as we can now get a good idea of what the interior spaces look like.
We appreciate your patience and support during the remodeling. The construction crews are doing their best to keep the construction zones and the parking lot as clean and as safe as possible. We ask that you continue to think safety while at the church.
