Dear Friend of FPC,
This Wednesday (Ash Wednesday) will mark the beginning of Lent. Traditionally, Lent is a time for Christians to remember the sacrifice of Christ on their behalf with even more intentionality than at other times of the year. Below you will learn about activities and resources offered through the ministry of the church to encourage your faith during this very important time. Sermons offered during the season of Lent will continue to proclaim Christ through the book of Hebrews. This series will conclude on Palm Sunday. Those who have engaged in the E-100 Bible reading challenge should continue to read while being mindful of how these Old Testament readings prepare us to receive Christ as Savior and Lord. In addition to these, I encourage you to explore the online Lenten devotional "Journey to the Cross" and plan to attend our special worship activities. (Ash Wednesday, the Agape Meal and worship during Holy Week)
Christians throughout the ages have found that in order to make time for these additional practices of faith sacrifices needed to be made. Sometimes a meal or an activity is given up during Lent, not only to be reminded of Christ's sacrifice, but also to make room in our life for additional attention to our faith. Stacey and I gave up television one year for Lent and found it to be an extremely rewarding practice!
Whatever the Lord leads you to do, I encourage you receive the season of Lent as a blessed opportunity to focus on Christ's love shown most fully at the cross.
For His Kingdom,
Pastor Clint

Ash Wednesday Intergenerational Event, February 22, 5:30 pm, Union
Join us at Union Elementary for dinner at 5:30 pm followed by intergenerational fellowship and activity. Three small groups will be formed out of those who attend to share in conversation, scripture reading, and an activity in Ash Wednesday based prayer stations.
Ash Wednesday Worship,
February 22, 7:00 pm, Chapel
Following the intergenerational event will be an Ash Wednesday Worship service at 7 pm in the Chapel. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season in the church year known as Lent. Lent is a time to prepare for the celebration of Easter and to renew our life in the mystery of the saving death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We begin this holy season by acknowledging our need for repentance, and for the mercy and forgiveness proclaimed in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We begin our journey to Easter with the sign of ashes, a biblical symbol of mourning and penitence. Please join us for this special service.
The Agape Meal, Sunday, March 25, 5:30 pm, Fellowship Hall
Two thousand years ago, the first Christians gathered on Sunday evenings for worship. Although they were still devout Jews and had already worshiped in their synagogues on the Sabbath (Saturday), they wanted to worship as Christians too. To do this, they invented a new service, an Agape Service. The First Presbyterian Church still celebrates this custom, and the Worship Commission and Board of Deacons will serve the Agape Meal on Sunday evening, March 25th at 5:30 in Fellowship Hall. All we need is you and your platter. Any finger foods, such as appetizers, hors d'ouevres, sandwiches, cheese, crackers, fruits, vegetables, dips, chicken wings, cookies, etc. will do (utensils are not used). It will be fun, memorable, and moving. Why not join us!
Daily Devotions Available at D365.org If you are desiring a daily devotion to take part in as part of your Lenten practices, check out the "Journey to the Cross" at D365.org. This site has daily devotions always available, but will be focusing on a "Journey to the Cross" during the season of Lent.
