For more events and more details,

Dear Friend of FPC,

This last Sunday (the 29th) I preached on Ephesians 1:15-23 about the power of God.  I spoke about how God has the same resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead, available for us today in our lives.  So often we Christians live as if our God is so much smaller than He really is.  This week in our FYI we have an update on our Capital Campaign. God is doing great things. I want to encourage you to test God in this, you be faithful and pray, bring in God's good gifts and tithes and see what God will do in your life, your family, your Church and your country.  Malachi goes on to say that when we enter into this kind of relationship with God, there will once again be a difference in the lives of those who are His and those who are not. He promises us "The Blessing". That is what the world awaits; it is waiting for churches to live into the power of God, speaking into their lives and into their communities.  When this happen, nothing can stop a church from growing and living into a great future.  See where God is at work and join Him in it.

Blessings in the House. Pastor Steve

Upcoming Events (For full schedule of events, please see our website)

Save these Dates!

It may be hard to believe, but summer is here! Mark your calendars for these exciting church events:

  • Dish and Dine Registration

For those of you who have always wanted to get to know your fellow FPC members better, the perfect opportunity is coming up. The new session of Dish and Dine will start up again in September. For those unfamiliar with the "DD" experience, it is a fun and easy way to get together with others from the church once a month. Once your name is submitted to the new organizer (Sarah Platz) you will be put into groups of around seven or eight people. That small group will then meet once a month for four months for dinner or sometimes brunch or breakfast. It is a group decision as to when, where and at what meal they will gather. The opportunity to eat out once a month with no preparation, good company and good conversation . . . who wouldn't want to join Dish and Dine? If you are interested, please email Sarah Platz at slplatz@bex.net or put a note in her box at church. (boxes are now located in what used to be the restroom outside of the sanctuary). All are welcome, singles and couples, young and old. The more the merrier!   Even if you have been a long time Dish and Dine member, please contact Sarah to confirm your interest for this year.   Please include your email address and/or phone number in your note to Sarah. We hope to see you in September.

  • BIKE CLUB:  this last week Sunday, July 29th we rode the Wabash Cannonball Trail.  We are having a great time exploring some great trails. Next week we will have more information on our next ride. Put a note in Jim Calderone's church mailbox with your name and contact information (cell phone, e-mail).  Contact info is important, in the event we need to cancel a ride due to inclement weather.  Ride locations will be announced in the bulletin and on the FYI weekly e-mail.
  • ANNUAL WOMEN'S RETREAT - SAVE THE DATE - FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26, 27, 28, 2012 AT THE PINES RETREAT CENTER, FREMONT, OHIO - Our Theme will be: "What does the Lord require of you? But to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)  Chris Wolfe, PC (USA) Justice and Peace Vice Moderator of Presbyterian Women and commissioned lay pastor will lead our retreat.  We will have time to relax and unwind, walk the labyrinth, enjoy the beautiful campus of the Pines, use our art skills and even find time for a massage,  And of course, we will have fabulous fellowship with our FPC sisters.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

TELEPHONE UPDATE

As we continue to move back into the church building we are learning a new way of being based on the space and technology with which we have been blessed.  One of these is a new phone system that has capabilities too great to count!  This system has the ability to use an automated answering service to direct you to the specific person you are calling.  During this time of transition this has been a great help!

However, once we have hired new administrative assistant we will make sure the phones are answered by an actual person during office hours.....you can never replace the human touch!  Thank you for your continued patience!  Until then, here are the extensions for office employs so that you may move through the automated system quickly:

    • Pastor Clint - Ext. 100
    • Pastor Steve - Ext. 101
    • Susan Platz - Ext. 102
    • Jason Armstrong - Ext. 103
    • Bob Stiles - Ext. 106

FYI Update

In the next couple of weeks with the move back into the church scheduled there will be a reduced FYI going out.  During the rest of the summer we will do some features on upcoming ministry opportunities coming to the Church.  We will send FYI updates out that have a new pastor's corner and any new announcements and prayer requests.  Blessings to you.

Street Fair and Open House

On August 18th we have another great opportunity to reach out to the community around us.  The City of Maumee is having their annual Street Fair. This is a great opportunity to showcase our newly remodeled facilities to the community.  A planning team has been working hard on putting together the right support and program for that opportunity.  The Church will be opening its doors, providing bottles of water, balloons, literature and a tour of the building so that the people of Maumee have an opportunity to not only see our building but our heart for them.  Join us in making this a great evangelism event.

St. Paul's Opportunity

On August 18th we have another great opportunity to serve lunch to the homeless and needy at St. Paul's.  Lunch is to be served at 11:30. We will be meeting at the church at 10:00 to prepare to go and reach out to people.  We need several volunteers.  So if you'd like to help, contact Pastor Steve.

Habitat For Humanity Build Opportunities

MO! Missions and Outreach has voted favorably to help fund a Habitat Build as a part of our missions opportunities to Connect Christ and Community in the Toledo area.  We just learned of three opportunities to volunteer and would like to know if there are those that have a preference in terms of which project to support.  The three builds are: a new build partnership in June/July; a new build partnership in August/September; and a Rehab project in October/November.  Please contact Pastor Steve if you have a preference or if you would like to volunteer.  Blessings on the house!

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE

We have a capital development campaign underway in this church!  To many of you that announcement comes as no surprise...and that's because you've been involved in planning the campaign...as a member of the church's Resource Development Committee; or because you're a member of the Campaign Committee, that since June 1 has been quietly calling on members of the congregation to ask them for their support; or it's becauseyou're a person who's been called on an already has made a pledge of some kind.

We're calling it the "Building the Kingdom" campaign.  Anne and Bill Brewer are the campaign honorary chairs. Janet Russ Jones and Bryce Harbaugh are the co-chairs. Our campaign committee numbers 47 people. Many of these people, but by no means all, are members of Session.

Our goal is to do 2 things: 1) raise 1.6 million dollars to MATCH an equal amount that is being taken from our endowment fund...and pay for the church renovations that you see all around you (and, recently, essentially are complete); 2) launch a major initiative to make planned, or deferred giving a widely understood and well-used means of supporting this church financially, both in the near future and for generations to come.  I'm happy to report that a tenth, a tithe, of that 1.6 million dollars we're raising will go to support the church's mission programs. That's $160,000.

What this means right now is that we're counting both cash gifts (to be paid over 3 years), AND commitments to give portions of peoples' estates to the church: BOTH TYPES OF GIFTS...as dollar contributions which will take us to our goal of 1.6 million.  And 25% of it ($400,000) is already raised...from just 22% of our potential donors!  Many more of those potential donors have already been called on and are considering what their gifts can be right now.

SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
The Session met on July 29 for their monthly meeting.  The Session celebrated the reception of new members into the life of the church.  It also sought the leading of God's Spirit in a number of areas critical to the future and faithful mission of the church, including a consideration of the definition for "Pastor - Head of Staff," the goals for our Sunday morning worship and discipleship schedule and ministry assignments for Elders in the upcoming year.  Unofficial minutes for the meeting can be accessed by clicking here.

JUMP START PRAYER GATHERING
Each Monday morning at 7 a.m. a hardy group of people from FPC gathers together in the Chapel to serve as Prayer Warriors for God.  We gather prayer requests, join together in prayer, and bring back reports of how God is answering our prayers.  What an encouraging and invigorating time!  Some weeks the needs are many and other times there are fewer spoken or written requests.  But the sweetest aspect of these Mondays is to just spend some time in the presence of God.  We have seen some exciting answers to prayer. We have continued to pray for our contractors who are working on the building as well as for those who gather for the AA meetings each week.  One of the things we pray for is that all who enter our building, for whatever reason, would experience a special touch of God's grace and presence.  There is plenty of room at the altar in the Chapel to pray and join us.  If you come you will be blessed.
