Readings Exodus 33:12-23 ; 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10 and Matthew 22:15-22

The glory and power of God unites our readings this week. Moses wants to know God more intimately and see God more clearly. Paul proclaims that the young church in Thessalonica "gets it" and has become a shining example of the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the world for all to follow. And, finally, when Jesus is tested by the Pharisees, he makes it clear that God is due the honor and glory that belongs to God alone.

On Saturday, October 14 the Board of Directors and their spouses, along with a few other members, took Pastor Ruth to the Lighthouse in Irvington for dinner. It was a wonderful time of laughter and conversation and a great chance to show Pastor Ruth our appreciation. On Sunday, October 15 the Hospitality Team provided a "Brunch" after Worship Service to honor Pastor Ruth and her service to Cornerstone. It was a time to fellowship and break bread with members, visitors and Pastor Ruth. There were plenty of smiles, laughter and conversation along with a lot eating! Thank you Pastor Ruth Jensen-Forbell for all you have done and continue to do for us.

I would like to thank everyone who made Pastor Appreciation so special for me last weekend. Special thanks to the BOD and to Melissa for wonderful food and fellowship and to all who participated. It is a blessing to be your pastor!

 I look forward to our continued journey together as Cornerstone grows in God's grace and ministers to the community.

The Board will meet this Sunday, October 22 after worship service. This meeting is open to all and begins with a Listening Post for members to provide proposals or comments. However, it is usually better to contact a board member ahead of time, so all the appropriate information is gathered and appropriate questions are addressed before the meeting.

 

After the election at the Congregational Meeting last month, our Board members now are Dr Ron Allison, Sheilah Coffee, Pat Hamilton, Jim Persons, Carol Wright, and Pastor Ruth Jensen-Forbell as our Moderator.

We are looking for board and card games for the Fellowship House. Go through your closets and chests and see if you have any old games you would be willing to donate to the church. We will store these in the Fellowship House for future use. Our team would like to host a game and dinner night at the church, so that we can get together in a relaxed and safe environment and enjoy one another's company. We have done this in the past and everyone that came and participated had a wonderful time. This would be a casual, informal event and would be open to anyone. So start digging in those closets and see what you can find! More details to come.

Our worship team helps make sure every worship service provides a meaningful experience for all. They take care of setting up the altar, getting communion ready, making sure there are holders, servers and readers and assist the pastor with communion. After service, they make sure everything is cleaned and put away. They are also responsible for changing the appearance of our worship space to honor each season or special occasion in the church year.

They will be taking a more hands on role in worship planning in the near future along with our Music Team. Special thanks to Kent, Terry and Pat for all they do!
