Dennis McAndrews and Joe McGettigan, both attorneys with McAndrews Law Offices, were recently featured on
Faces of the Main Line and interviewed by host John Ricciutti on Main Line Public TV at Radnor Studio 21. McAndrews and McGettigan worked closely together as prosecutors in the 1996-1997 trial of America's wealthiest murder, John duPont, for the murder of Olympic Gold medal wrestler David Schultz.
Since 1989, Dave Schultz and his family, along with many other wrestlers, lived on du Pont's 800-acre Foxcatcher Estate on the Main Line and trained at duPont's "Team Foxcatcher" wrestling facility. On January 26th, 1996, John duPont shot and killed Dave while he was working on his car in his driveway. duPont proceeded to his Delaware County mansion to hold law enforcement officials at bay for two days. Over the next year, the prosecution was up against duPont's team of high powered attorneys, facing dozens of motions, and fearing that duPont would never face trial, or that he'd be found not guilty by reason of insanity. After seven days of deliberation, the jury rejected duPont's insanity defense and convicted him of third degree murder. duPont died in jail in December of 2010.
Known as the "Man with a million best friends", Dave Schultz's legacy has lived on through his family and friends. Nancy Schultz and director, John Greenhalgh, recently produced the Netflix documentary, Team Foxcatcher, which made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in April of 2016. The film features home footage of the Schultz family, friends and wrestlers, as well as an inside into the prosecution and case that sought to seek justice for Dave.
