Happy National Small Business Week!

Did you know it's National Small Business week? That's right! Of course, in the Art Museum Area every week can feel like National Small Business week because we are fortunate to have healthy and growing commercial corridors all around us. Rather than a splashy event, two simple but important reminders...

Neighbors , be sure to support your small businesses this and every week. They help create the sense of vibrancy and sense of place that we all value.

Businesses , we're here to help. Whether you hit a bump in the road or are preparing to expand, visit www.fairmountcdc.org/dobusiness for a list of resources.

Now, as the weather gets warmer, and you think about your next workout, next al fresco dining night, or the next housewarming present you need to buy, #thinksmall and think about your neighborhood businesses first.

Best,
Kevin Moran

Celebrate Love your Park Week at Lemon Hill!
Making Headlines
Philadelphia Business Journal
It closed earlier this year, which means two Fairmount stalwarts - the other being Rembrandt's - were taken out of the neighborhood's thriving community and dining scene. That's no longer the case.

The Philadelphia Tribune
As the sounds of women talking and hair dryers blowing filled her salon, Streak of Blu, Turner said vacant storefronts have been replaced with a busier, safer, more highly trafficked business district as more middle-income and business professionals have moved in.
Philly.com
Last year, I joined a group of strangers walking up Ridge Avenue from Francisville into Sharswood. We traveled along blocks churned through Philly's recent building boom, into the heart of an ongoing urban renewal project. We walked through the city's past, looking at shuttered storefronts and vacant lots that were once record shops and clubs.
Lemon Hill, if it's known in Philadelphia, is not known as a symbol of imperial colonialism tinged with traces of racism and violence.  Situated on the bluff overlooking the Schuylkill, Boathouse Row, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it is perhaps most famous as the  historic Fairmount Park mansion restored from dilapidation by legendary museum director Fiske Kimball,  who lived in the house for nearly 30 years.
