Guys' Night Out

The year of beer continues, and we will enjoy the evening on a patio this month. To kick off the run of patio venues, we're going back to one of the best outdoor beer gardens in town: Exile Brewing Company, 1514 Walnut Street, Des Moines. Note that we will not be having GNO on the usual last Monday of the month since that is Memorial Day, but instead will just be moving one day later to Tuesday, May 30, at 7:00 p.m. Meet in the bar area, hopefully on the patio.

Please let us know if you will be attending by texting Tim (707-0880) or Pete ( 783-5920 ) our new group leader, replacing Dave Eppert (thanks to Dave for all the years leading this group!).

Containers and Pans

If you have brought food items for events or funerals and have forgotten to pick your empty container, please pick it up in the kitchen. The kitchen will be cleaned out the week of May 29th and the leftover items will be put on tables in the Commons on June 3 and 4. Thank you for generously donating your time and food.

Family Promise
Faith Families: Can You Help?

Faith's next week to host homeless families in the Gathering House is June 11 through June 17. We know summer is a busy time, but can also an opportunity for families to find time together to give back. Family Promise is one such opportunity to help the less fortunate, and is so very easy! We need meals to be provided, but helping as hosts for an evening dinner, or to stay overnight is an essential role in this ministry - great for a parent/child team, and it's right here on Faith's premises. Bonus: youth who volunteer with their parents can earn service/silver cord hrs. If you're a first-time volunteer, you'll be given full instructions on this easy-to-do service.

Look for the signup on a table in the Commons. If you have any questions about FP or the volunteer roles, please feel free to contact Bob at bnbshaw@q.com, or Lynnette at lm.sorensen@icloud.com. Thank you!

Religious Communities of Des Moines

This spring Drake University in conjunction with DMARC published a book on the religious communities of Des Moines A Spectrum of Faith: Religions of the World in America's Heartland . It features beautiful color photos and gives a glimpse into 15 houses of worship. Copies can be purchased through the website at: https://www.dmarcunited.org/book/. In the coming months, each of the places profiled in the book will be hosting open houses--and we're going!
  • A second open house will be on Saturday, June 3, at Ezan Educational & Islamic Center, 6202 Douglas Avenue, Des Moines. Its member is made up predominately of Bosnian families. It will be held at 8:30 in the evening in coordination with breaking the Ramadan fast. A meal will be available. If you are interested in carpooling, we will meet in the Faith parking lot at 8:15 p.m.
  • Save the date for the third open house on Sunday, July 2, at Tu Viện Hồng Ðức, 5906 SW 9th St, Des Moines. This is a Buddhist Temple.
