Weekly News For
Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church
April 8, 2018
This Sunday

The Reverend Alice Batcher graduated from Union Theological Seminary in Manhattan, and was originally ordained by the American Baptist Churches of New Jersey. Her ordination standing is currently with the United Church of Christ. Alice enjoys visiting many different Presbyterian and UCC churches as a Pulpit Supply Pastor. After serving as Pastor in several congregations, Alice is currently training to be a Funeral Director.

The Church Brunch That was moved from Easter Sunday will now be next Sunday, April 15 in the Annex. Since "weather" was initially expected this weekend, it was moved to the following week in consideration for the shoppers and cooks who prepare ahead of time. Being that the "weather" is so fickle and forecast are all over the place, it was thought best to still keep it next week. See you then!

Prayer Chain Ministry
Prayer Changes Things
The Prayer Chain is a special ministry of our church, through which members engage in a ministry of intercessory prayer, praying for particular people who either refer themselves, or who are referred by church members and staff. Prayers are offered both for individuals by name, and anonymously.  Requests can be kept strictly confidential for the prayer chain only.

To place a request on the Prayer Chain, please call the Church Office at (732) 899-0587 or call Frankie Kunz at 732-892-4223.  You also may fill out a prayer card in the pew.

Members of the Prayer Chain make a commitment to faithfully pray and keep all requests confidential.  They can receive messages over the phone or by email. If you would like to be a part of this special ministry please call Frankie Kunz.

Wilton Hall Dedication April 22

Please join us in the CE Annex on April 22 for the dedication of Wilton Hall in honor of the Rev. Dr. Carlos E. Wilton.  The dedication ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. followed by a coffee and cake reception. Dr. Wilton, along with the Rev. Claire Pula, will be returning that afternoon as we recognized him for his outstanding work and devotion in establishing the Volunteer Village after Hurricane Sandy.

All are welcome to join us in this joyous dedication.  All who participated in the mission of the Volunteer Village are especially encouraged to attend.

The Big Cover Up

Good news continues to grace us for the Big Cover Up. You will notice materials have been delivered in the parking lot, there is just one thing missing SUNSHINE!

We are hopeful that by the time you are reading this, the project will have begun of removing the old roof etc.

There is also good news in terms of the internal ceiling damage we have sustained. There have been several insulation contractors in to check things out and we got good news! They have gone up and lifted the insulation the damage areas and found they are nice and dry and there is no sign of any mold or bacteria we need to treat.   This is one of the benefits of having a large and airy attic space.

Many thanks to all who made this project possible with their donations and support of the fund raisers.

Keep your eyes peeled for the sun and the new roof!

God is Great.

Busy Hands for Mission Busy Hands for Mission

Busy Hands for Mission is a group of women who meet in the Fellowship Room on the first, fourth, and fifth Tuesday of each month to make items for others. We meet from 10 to 12 and enjoy having lunch together afterward.

Our projects include adult bibs, hospital gowns, and walker caddies which are given to the Visiting Nurses Association for their use. Baby hats and blankets are given to Jersey Shore Medical Center and Ocean Medical Center for newborn infants. Local nursing homes receive large and small walker caddies and lap robes. Dresses in various sizes are sent to Africa through the "Little Dresses for Africa" project. We also make the bags filled by our congregation with school supplies. Pillowcases are made and donated to Interfaith Hospitality Network and Crafty Fabrics, owned by Diane McColley. She distributes them to the children's units at hospitals. Teddy bears are given to children staying at our church through the Interfaith Hospitality Network.

If you would like to be a part of these projects, we need material, yarn, bias bindings, and other supplies. We are accepting gift cards to Micheal's and Joanne's, baby and medium weight yarn, cotton or cotton/polyester blend material of at least a yard in length, and large pieces of flannel for the teddy bears. In addition, we have had a Christmas Shoppe of handmade items the last two years which enabled us to donate $1000 to fixing the church roof.

However our financial cupboard is now bare.  We would gladly accept financial donations to enable us to continue helping others.

To join our group, for more information, or to donate, please contact Marilyn Rice 732 202-1696 or Sue Hankins 732 458-3823 or stop by on the first, fourth, or fifth Tuesday in the Fellowship Room. We have something for you to do even if you don't sew, knit, or crochet!

We would like to get the word out how you and your family have been blessed.  Whether in big things or little, we have so much to be thankful for.  You can email the office at mail@pointpresbyterian.org or give us a call.  You never know how your good news may just encourage someone else.

Wish to Know More About Us?

We recently had several people check the box "Wish to join the Church" on the attendance pads.  We are glad you wish to know more about our church.  The Inquirers Class is the first step to membership. Our next Inquires  Class is tentatively scheduled for the first Sunday in May. The Inquirers Class  includes information concerning the beliefs, history, worship, and practices of our church.  Please speak directly with the Rev. Linda Chase so that we schedule our Inquirers Group that works best for those interested.

In additional, we ask that everyone signs the attendance pads each week.  We record the information to help us have a better understanding of our members, regular attenders and visitors.  In addition any address, phone, and email updates can help us keep our records current.  All new email address are added to our weekly email newsletter.
