disABILITY Fair:  Knowledge is Power!
March was Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month!

In 1987 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March "Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month." The de-institutionalization movement of the seventies and early eighties had laid the foundation for significant social change, and the presidential proclamation called upon Americans to provide the "encouragement and opportunities" necessary for people with developmental disabilities to reach their potential.

Our Middle School students hosted an amazing disABILITY Fair to raise awareness.  Matthew Rich, a motivational speaker about Cerebral Palsy, shared his first-hand experience with CP.  Click here to watch his YouTube video watched by students to give them background knowledge about Matthew.  Matthew's story is riveting, powerful, and inspirational.

Check out the photos below to see a glimpse of an amazing day of learning and further evidence of how great Burlington Township is in every aspect of the the word diversity.  Students were able to gain a deeper understanding of various disabilities. Participants left each station with a sense of respect and appreciation by experiencing some of the challenges their peers may face. At this fair, there was an opportunity to speak to real speakers who have a disability and how they look beyond their challenges to be successful and reach their goals. Mrs. Grande, her students and colleagues did an excellent job organizing this event.

Holocaust survivor, Charles Middleburg, shared his story with BT Students

His message of survival, message of acceptance of others, and the message of the importance of family left all in attendance mesmerized.

Family Learning Series Family Art Night

The Family Learning Series Family Art night was a huge success. Families came out to artistically express themselves using paint, rocks, and some great imagination!
