Principal's Message October 6, 2017

Happy Fall Break! In preparation for the second quarter of school, our staff typically reviews behavioral and academic expectations with our students. This is a good way to help children start the new quarter refocused and ready to learn, participate and socialize in appropriate ways. Parents can help us by reinforcing positive expectations: Over Fall Break, please help your child go through his/her backpack or book bag to remove old work, tidy up binders or folders, and make sure your son or daughter has enough supplies for the next three months. Taking this time to prepare with your student allows them to take ownership in organizing and being accountable for what goes into and out of their backpacks. Just a reminder, students receive our weekly Communicator every Monday in Academic Strategies classes (6-8).
At the end of the first quarter, FHMS has conducted separate Honor Roll/Principal List assemblies to celebrate academic excellence. This year, we are introducing our quarterly "Power Hour" where we will celebrate Honor Roll, Principal's List, extracurricular sports and clubs, and many more events from first quarter. On October 27, 2017, parents are invited to attend our first Power Hour scheduled to begin at 2:25 p.m., which will be held in the gym. Please be sure to use the back parking lot (no parking in the bus loading zone). If your student has achieved Honor Roll or Principal List status, you will receive a special invitation to the event, your child will receive a certificate from the classroom teacher and all will be recognized by grade level at the Power Hour. Expect lots of celebrating, grade level chants, music, an appearance by our mascot, and a number of community members in attendance. Regardless of whether your student makes Honor Roll or Principal's List, all parents are invited and we welcome you to participate in this new tradition at Fountain Hills Middle School. Wear your FHMS gear!

Love Our Schools Day
Last Saturday we had a phenomenal turnout at our first Love Our Schools Day. Students picked up trash on campus and transformed the area right outside the art room into the FHMS Memorial Garden. We will announce its dedication soon. Great job from STUGO and NJHS students, sponsors, PTO parents, and staff who dropped by to take a look at the work. We may start small, but we have big ideas on how to love our school!

Halloween Dance
FHMS Falcon Leaders are hosting a Halloween Dance for grades 6-8 on Friday, October 27, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm in the FHMS courtyard.
Tickets are $10 and may can be purchased from Mrs. Beck at the front office before school, after school or during lunch. Tickets must be purchased in advance - NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE DOOR. The admission price includes food and drink, so students should not bring money the evening of the dance.
Students may wear their costumes provided they are dress-code appropriate.
