Fall Clubs and Athletics are in Full Swing

Getting involved in extracurricular activities has proven benefits for children having been documented in multiple publications.  Participation in activities outside of the school day can increase academic performance, reinforce teamwork and responsibility, apply classroom learning to real-world situations, and build a sense of community (Educational Leadership and  National Center for Education Statistics ).

A quick look at the Student Life section of each school website reveals a multitude of extra-curricular clubs and sports teams available to our students. FHUSD offers an extensive range of opportunities for students to get involved in activities to stretch and develop their social, academic, artistic and physical skills. MMES offers clubs in Spanish, Chess, Legos and Robotics. At FHMS up to a dozen clubs are offered for students with an interest in arts, science/technology, and academic enrichment. The Fountain Hills Noon Kiwanis group sponsors the Builders Club/K-Kids to develop community leadership. FHHS offers almost twenty different clubs and activities for students. Many are sponsored by a particular staff member while others work in partnership with other organizations such as the Sunset Kiwanis and Sister Cities.

Athletics play an important role in the development of a spirit of fitness and competition for students. Fall sports at FHMS include Football, Girls Volleyball, Co-Ed Soccer, and Golf. The fall high school lineup includes Spirit Line, Cross Country, Football, and Volleyball with new options this year of the Swim team and Pom Line.

There are specific schedules and fees for these clubs and sports so be sure to check the school websites for details and ability to use Tax Credit funds where possible. Also look for the availability of a late bus to provide transportation options.

So whatever your child's interest, there is a club or activity to enhance his or her experience at their school and contribute to the mission to Achieve and Celebrate Academic Excellence.

Respectfully,

Robert Allen, Ed.D.
