It's That Time of the Year.........
With the onset of the second semester, we are officially into the last half of the 2016-2017 school year. I've always found it to be an interesting time because there is a need for students, staff, and parents to stay focused on the present and take care of the important business of teaching and learning now, but at the same time, we necessarily begin taking steps to prepare for the next school year. Those important preparatory steps include "Moving Up" days, parent nights, and registration.
Stay tuned to the individual school newsletters (found in the section below) for more details in the coming days and weeks, but I want to share with you an early "heads up" regarding some of these activities.
On Friday, January 27th, 8th grade students will tour the high school and take part in the Hoopcoming Assembly. Mr. Jagodzinski's intent is to make these students feel welcome on the campus and get excited about being a Falcon as freshmen in the fall. On Tuesday, January 31st, 8th Grade Parent Night will be held in the Lecture Hall on the high school campus. Similarly, the goal is to make parents feel welcome while familiarizing them with the registration and transition process. On Thursday, February 2nd, high school counselors Marie Cooper and Erika Phillips will visit 8th grade classes at the middle school to provide an overview of the registration process with students and then on Friday, February 3rd, Ms. Cooper and Ms. Phillips will be at the middle school to actually register those students.
At McDowell Mountain Elementary School, the Preschool/Kindergarten Round-Up will take place on February 23rd from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and all day on February 24th from 9:00-3:00 p.m. If you know any families with students of preschool and kindergarten ages, please encourage them to enroll at McDowell Mountain Elementary and to check out the events on either February 23rd or February 24th.
Mrs. Dehombreux and Mrs. Gomez are planning on having third grade students visit the Four Peaks Elementary campus on Wednesday, April 19th and there will be a parent night on Thursday, April 20th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Four Peaks Elementary.
The fifth to sixth grade moving up events will be on April 5th, with students touring the middle school during the day and the parent night being from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
I speak for all of our administrators, teachers, and support staff in saying that we look forward to making these transitions between grade levels and schools as seamless as possible. Thanks for your on-going support of FHUSD.
