"We Achieve and Celebrate Educational Excellence"
Superintendent's Message                                         October 28, 2016
State Superintendent Diane Douglas Here 11-02-2016
On Wednesday, November 2nd, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas will visit Fountain Hills as part of her We Are Listening Tour. Superintendent Douglas will be available to ask and answer questions as she is able.  The meeting is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 PM and is open to the public.  It is intended to be an open forum on all K-12 education topics and will be held in The Learning Center.

Community Garden
Dr. Jyoti Patel and a team of volunteers have worked hard to make the dream of a community garden a reality.  If you have the opportunity, join Dr. Patel and others for the official groundbreaking this Saturday at 1 PM.  The new community garden will be located in the undeveloped lot behind the library and that is the location of the groundbreaking event.  In addition, there will be a free demonstration class focused on how to build a raised bed garden as well as a volunteer meeting.  I encourage you to come support the garden and get the latest news and updates on how you and your family can get involved.  More information is available on the: Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association's Website.

Make a Difference Day

Last Saturday was Make a Difference Day and over 50 volunteers, including students, parents, staff, and Four Peaks Rotary members made a difference at FHHS. Organized by Four Peaks Rotary Club Foundation Chair Paul Perreault, this was the largest single project of the day. The army of volunteers cleared overgrown brush, trimmed trees, and picked up litter to help beautify the high school campus. Special thanks go out to the members of the football team and the boys' basketball team who showed up bright and early to make a difference. Additional kudos to Key Club for their work on a separate project to clean up and refresh the patio area of the administration building in preparation for some new desert plants.

....and speaking of the Four Peaks Rotary Club

On Thursday, I was presented a check for $2,000 from the Four Peaks Rotary Club. This generous contribution helps support the after school {coda}kid initiative we started in September.  I sincerely appreciate the support for this program that is important for kids and expands the high-quality opportunities available in FHUSD. Last month, the Fountain Hills PTO contributed $4,000 toward {coda}kid and as a result of these two substantial donations, tax credit funds, and fees paid by students' families, this great program is being funded from sources outside of the district's Maintenance and Operations budget.  On behalf of the entire district, thank you to these t wo groups and thank you to everyone who provides additional support to the district through donations and tax credit contributions.

Kind Regards,

Patrick Sweeney, Ed.D.
