When I was a little boy, every summer we piled in the car and made a two-day journey from Nashville to Houston, TX to visit my grandparents. I was always excited for our trips to see Mommy and Pop – and wearing my sheath knife during our stay in TX made me feel like I was Jim Bowie! Mommy and Pop lived on a 100+ acre farm in a big house that Pop designed and built. By far my favorite room in Mommy and Pop’s house was the library; I loved the interesting items on the tables, the colorful art on the walls, and especially important in the TX summer — the air conditioning!

For many years at the Manning Agency, I could fondly remember Mommy and Pop’s house by looking at the lamp and table I had from their library. But I missed the colorful pictures that hung on the wall. The memory of them had faded. Then, a few years ago, during our renovation of the office, my brother Charles showed up with some old boxes he had found. Inside the boxes were the pictures from Mommy and Pop’s library! I couldn’t believe it – they were even better than I remembered! A little bit of research revealed that the art came from a school of Native American artists from Oklahoma called the Kiowa Six. We invested in some new framing so they could be properly shown off and now they hang on the walls at the office.

Everyday we enjoy looking at this art that I loved as a child. Next time you’re nearby, please stop by and take a look at it yourself!
