FONP is proud to partner with WNY Muslims in an effort to serve all individuals experiencing food insecurity and poverty in Buffalo.
FONP now prepares a complete warm Halal meal every Sunday that began in September. The meal is prepared at FONP and served at the Masjid Al Eiman located at 444 Connecticut Street. Additionally, beginning October 29th, an additional meal will be served at the Masjid Bilal located at 343 Potomac Avenue. Food service begins at 1:30PM following the daytime prayer and is open to all community members experiencing food insecurity and poverty, not just those of the Muslim faith.
The Halal meal program continues to grow weekly and has helped meet the needs of many individuals, families and children who do not have access to regular meals. Remaining food has also been shared with Compass House, an organization that provides safe shelter and services to Runaway and Homeless youth and teens in Buffalo.
Tehniyet Azam is WNY Muslim's Associate Executive Director and she is responsible for the Halal soup kitchen's facilitation. She is very excited about the program's facilitation and growth. When asked about the program, she expressed, "
Each week, we have gotten the opportunity to serve approximately 50 people who may otherwise not know how to get their next meal. Our mission is to help the less fortunate members of the community regardless of their circumstances or backgrounds. We welcome everyone and anyone. In addition, we focus on providing an uplifting and nourishing environment."
Since the program's inception, over 435 meals have been served on the west side.
WNY Muslims is holding a Thanksgiving Turkey "Drop & Drive" at FONP on
