Brighten a West Park Family's Holiday Season

Why not take a couple of hours this season to assist in getting food to the less fortunate in West Park? In just three hours, St. Pat's Hunger Center will distribute bags of food to more than 300 families the weekend before Thanksgiving, including a turkey and the other ingredients needed for a nutritious Thanksgiving dinner.

With the closing of the Bread Basket Food Pantry this year, the need has grown significantly at St. Pat's, and they need your help. At 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, at 4427 Rocky River Drive, you can be part of the team that assembles and distributes the food to area families. No need to register in advance. Simply mark your calendar and show up! Volunteer for an hour or three hours -- the work will be done by noon.

Can't help that day but still want to make a difference? Mail a contribution (checks payable to St. Pat's Hunger Center) to 4427 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland, OH 44135, or simply drop one off.

Seniors are becoming a large percentage of those in need as well as families. Let's show our neighbors that we care about their well being!

If you are in need of food assistance, you may register with St. Pat's if you live within the boundaries of Lorain Avenue to the north, the Metroparks to the west, Brookpark Road to the south, and West 150th Street to the east. Registration is on Saturday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Sunday, November 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Thorpe Hall on the St. Pat's property. If you live in a CMHA facility, you may sign up in the lobby of your building.

Irish 32 Moves Forward

Interior and exterior renovations continue on the Irish 32 tavern, formerly known as West Park Village Tavern, located at 15715 Lorain Avenue.

As many of our readers may have observed, the building's facade sports a new look with new storefront glass and an overhead door replacing the formerly bricked-up storefront areas. New lighting and signage complement the building's appearance. Remaining exterior work includes awnings and repainted side walls. The installation of a new front patio will further upgrade the curb appeal. Irish 32 co-owner Rita Pfeifer said she has already seen an uptick in business.

Meanwhile, work continues on the remodeling of the tavern interior and upgrading the kitchen. For details on the new menu and the date of the grand opening of Irish 32, follow on Facebook here or call 216-476-1558.

Farmers Market Operates Indoors November 9 and December 14

Visit the market twice more inside the Cretan Center at 3853 West 168th Street, where eighteen market members will bring us the best foods Ohio has to offer. Master Chef Steve Nikolakis of City Club Catering will once again be serving his market favorite home made chicken noodle soup as well as gyros, burgers, fries, and Greek delicacies! Two market dates are set on the second Sunday of the month: November 9 and December 14.

The impressive array of local foods includes meats, eggs, cheeses, maple syrup, honey, and a variety of preserved foods such as peppers, pickles, jams, salsas, and sauces. Farmers offer storage crops, such as apples, winter squash, potatoes, and other root vegetables. Area vendors provide baked goods, pasta, prepared food, spices, tea and coffee, oils and vinegars, soaps and lotions, local art, and hand-crafted items. Visit the Kamm's Corners Farmers Market website for more information.

Reliable Snow Removal Services Needed

As we head into the winter months, demand for snow removal service skyrockets. In order to help meet that need, KCDC is compiling a list of local (hopefully West Park based) and reliable contractors ready to take on the snowy weather. If you or someone you know owns, is employed by, or can recommend a bonded, licensed, and insured snow removal service -- we want to know! Please contact Julie Dahlhausen at [email protected] or 216.252.6559 ext. 1300 for further details.
