Stunning seasonal displays and Tahoe's iconic Aspen trees give new meaning to the term, "Gold Rush." Sierra aborists are predicting stunning conditions" this October for peak Autumn colors which are sure to delight Autumn leaf viewers.
Fall color comes to Tahoe starting in late September and peaks through October. If the weather remains mild, the Fall colors will last for three to four weeks. Aspen are the predominant trees splashing the mountains with breathtaking streaks of gold, and orange.
Here are four suggested viewing locales, which are favorites among Tahoe residents:
1) Hope Valley, just a half-hour South of South Lake Tahoe, has one of the very best Aspen color views seen any where in the Sierra Nevada Mountains;
2) Spooner Lake, just 20-minutes North of the Pine Cone Resort, is an awesome place to see some of the largest Aspen trees in the world; this picturesque lake abounds with robust bird viewing; this flat well manicured 1.9-mile trail is perfect for super easy walk-and-talk hikers; see the meadow where the opening scene of the TV series "Bonanza" was filmed;
3) Marlette Lake, just 2.5-miles north up a dirt fire road from Spooner Lake, go ga-ga over non-stop golden Aspens shimmering surrealistically in the sun and reflections in the crystal clear lake; or
4) Simply drive around Lake Tahoe, because where ever you go, you can't miss the Autumn splendor, what has been called by many travel books, "Americas Most Beautiful Drive"!
