Join AFMSP and discover the land of  teranga !  After learning about Senegal during our month-long focus on that country in March 2017, our members asked for an opportunity to visit there with  Alliance  Française .  Et voilà !

Beginning in Dakar, we will learn more about the country's history and rich cultures.  On our way north to Saint Louis, the former French capitol of West Africa, we will stop in the Lompoul Desert for lunch and a camel ride in the dunes.  After exploring Saint Louis and meeting local artists, we travel south to Toubab Dialaw on the Petite-Côte, an area known for its beautiful beaches and artist colonies, with a stop in Thiès.

This special opportunity is perfect for people with a sense of adventure, looking to discover new French-speaking countries! Read more about this trip!

NADIA - Giving voice to the most influential music teacher of the 20th century through her words and music at MacPhail Center for Music
In this chamber music/ theatrical revue, music performed by the Bakken Trio's warmly expressive violinist  Stephanie Arado and the brilliant pianist  Michael Kim trigger Nadia's memories of her life, the deaths of her father and lover, the complex relationship she had with "the true genius of the family", her sister Lili, and the "crazy pleasure" she feels teaching.   Nadia Boulanger's brilliance and magnetic personality are showcased in master classes - How Does Bach Write Mercy? - as well as in private lessons with Copland, Francaix and Piazzola.
In this homage to great teachers, themes include the richness of the mentor/scholar relationship, the balance of artistic freedom with craft, truth vs. perception, and the counterpoint of emotion endured by those who live intensely.  Sunday Sep. 17, 4 PM and  Monday, Sep. 18, 7:30 PM
