2017 Fall Public Works Academy
Who Should Attend
The CT Public Works Academy (PWA) provides education on those core competencies necessary to be successful members of the public works community. The PWA is also an excellent opportunity for updated information on the latest in technology and best practices for experienced employees who are new to professional development. Each module is taught by an instructor who is an expert in the subject matter.
When and Where
The PWA program is comprised of six (6) weekly sessions that will be held each Wednesday at the Technology Transfer Center at UConn in Storrs, CT. Classes will be held from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Participants must attend all six modules to receive credit for the Academy.

A Supervisors' O rientation Session will be held on August 23, 2017.   Participation is mandatory for the direct supervisor of each participant.
Training Overview
Each week at the Academy, participants will become familiar with different subject matter that is essential to working in Public Works.The following is an overview of the topics that will be covered each week:

Week 1
Professionalism and Communication Skills 
Week 2 Chainsaw Safety and Storm Clean Up 
Week 3 Roadway Fundamentals
Week 4 Work Zone Safety and Flagger Certification
Week 5 Operational Safety
Week 6 Winter Operations and Safe Operation of a Snow Plow
