Welcome Back to the A.S. Government Corner!
The A.S. Board recently
created the Spartan Community Fund Ad Hoc Committee and will also be continuing the work of the Government Restructure for Equity and Transparency (GREAT) Ad Hoc Committee this year. Both of these committees will improve campus climate and increase opportunities for involvement with student government. If you are interested in learning more or getting involved in these committees, stop by our government office (SU 2300)!
In recent news, Joshua Romero resigned as Vice President of Associated Students. Per the organization's Bylaws, A.S. Director of Internal Affairs, Eric Medrano, has succeeded him. Applications for the Director of Internal Affairs are currently being reviewed. A new director will be announced in the next few weeks.
Remember that A.S. also provides opportunities for jobs, committees, and student organization funding. Watch our new video for more information on how you can get involved (scroll down to the Opportunity Corner)!
Student Government regularly holds its A.S. board meetings every other Wednesday at 3:00pm in the Student Union. The meetings are public so I encourage you to attend. In October, the meetings will be on 10/12 and 10/26. To view the full A.S. calendar, click here.
Have a great day, until next time!
A.S. Student Government Corner is a monthly update from A.S. Director of Communications, Jasmine Garcia ([email protected]).

In Remembrance of Billy Nguyen
Tuesday, October 11th, 3:00pm, Sport Club Lawn
Associated Students joins the campus community in mourning the passing of second-year Kinesiology major William "Billy" Nguyen.
The campus community is invited to a vigil on Tuesday, October 11, in honor of Billy.
As requested, in lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any donations in Billy's name be made to the Red Cross to help save the lives of others.
On June 1, 2016, Billy became a student employee of Associated Students in the Campus Recreation department. Billy was an active volunteer to Outdoor Adventures prior to being hired.
As the department transitioned to become part of the Student Union, Billy continued to enjoy and grow in his role as an Outdoor Adventures leader.

Today, some of the top issues in the United States are childhood poverty, income inequality, and wealth
