Dear Girl Scout Family
I just got back from Our World, Our Family, Lakes and Pines' largest program event of the year, and to be honest, I'm just glowing about being a Girl Scout. Here are some of my personal leadership reflections on the event ...
- 1,000 people raising their hands and saying the Girl Scout Promise and Law together is a great reminder of how many lives are touched in Girl Scouting.
- Everybody needs a "spare mustache" now and again. I was seating people for dinner and a sweet, sweet girl -- seeing I was sweating, no doubt, tucked a SWAP into my hand. It was a "spare moustache" tattoo in a bag with a pin. It stopped me from being so serious and reminded me to enjoy the moment. I've looked at it several times since then and gotten the same smile.
- I'm super proud of our girls. A girl was partway to the first platform on the high ropes when I walked over to observe. Her mom was videotaping and I whispered, "Is this her first time?" Mom nodded. I watched as the girl worked her way to the platform where she let out a sigh of relief. She promptly got nervous about stepping onto the rope. With encouragement, she worked through the challenge. When she finally stepped onto the rope, my eyes welled with tears and my heart swelled with pride. One of the Camp Lake Hubert staff whispered, "What's her name?" I shrugged and turned to ask her mom. (If you're reading this, Hi, Katelynn).
Please extend my thanks to the girls for inspiring us all and thanks to the adults who made Our World, Our Family so much fun! I look forward to seeing you throughout the year!
