Plans are underway for our
25th annual Stagecoach Sunday

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Stagecoach Sunday, the FLC's popular fall fundraiser to be held on Sunday, Oct. 4. We're looking forward to another great afternoon of family fun and entertainment, but we need your help to make our silver anniversary event truly shine.

We are asking our members to participate in the success of this critical annual fundraiser by donating a special item or service to our Silent Auction and Raffle. Do you have a time share or vacation rental you could donate for this worthy cause? What about:

Tickets to sports/entertainment events, theme parks or special exhibits?

       Concert or special event?

Lessons in a craft or discipline?

       Catered party?

       Tour or unique adventure?

       Professional service?

Be creative. Your special donation(s) will be highlighted on our website to attract interest and early buyers. We are also seeking sponsors for  our beer and wine garden, live entertainment and stagecoach. As a sponsor or donor, your contribution will also be recognized in our program, newsletter and other publicity. Send us your auction form today. For more auction updates, ticket prices or other info, please visit our website Thank you in advance for helping to make our silver anniversary a huge success.

New sign at Monserate Mountain trail head.
Monserate Mountain hikers advised to protect  valuables
New signs have been installed at the trail head to Monserate Mountain Preserve after the Fallbrook Sheriff's substation recently issued a warning to hikers in the area.
"There have been five reported vehicle burglaries there in the last 60 days, said Sheriff's Detective Joel Couch in a July 2 article in the Village News. The VN also reported "that a number of vehicle burglaries have occurred off and on at the Sandia Creak area near the Santa Margarita trail system." The Monserate trail head parking area is located on the east side of Interstate 15, at the corner of Stewart Canyon and Pankey Road. Six warning signs have been installed along the Pankey Road fence line, according to the FLC's Mike Peters. He recommends that hikers who park their cars in the area take their valuables with them in a backpack.
 Nature Conservancy's Zach Principe
Zach Principe
is guest speaker at FLC Salon
San Diego is the most biologically rich county in the nation. It is also the most threatened, according to Zach Principe, an ecoregional ecologist for the Nature Conservancy. Principe spoke on "Conservation in California: Many Threats Lead to Many Solutions," at a recent FLC salon for Emerald Grove members.
Development, climate change, non-native plants and incompatible recreation are the greatest threats to biodiversity, Principe said. He noted several ways the Conservancy works with policy makers, the agriculture and fishing industries, planners and developers to devise solutions to "nature's needs." For example, the worldwide organization has worked with fisheries to develop strict catch limits and monitoring to avoid over-fishing species. "The fish are sustainably harvested while the fishermen continue to make a living," said Principe, who joined the FLC's board of directors in January. His talk was held at the home of Gary and Jan Beeler. It is the second in a series of four salons planned this year for major contributors.
The Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC), founded in 1988, is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and enhancing the rural character of our community. The FLC's efforts are made possible by the many members and volunteers who generously give support year after year. Thanks to you, Fallbrook now has more than 2,073 acres of beautiful habitat and valuable open space protected for present and future generations to enjoy.

Volunteers needed for

SOF tree maintenance

Save Our Forest is looking for a few good volunteers to help with routine care of trees in the downtown area. "Tree care is up to our community," said Jackie Heyneman, SOF chair, in a recent Village News article. "It would be wonderful if residents could volunteer a couple of hours a month of their time. Considering that trees are the work horses of a healthful environment, it is a small price to pay." Since it was founded more than 20 years ago, SOF has planted thousands of trees in Fallbrook neighborhoods. To learn more about how you can help care for our trees, call (760) 728-5395.
The FLC is now registered at SmileAmazon.
