PASTOR'S PONDERINGS

Pastor's Ponderings for Sunday, Oct 1, 2017
Our texts for this Sunday are:
As we approach them together, I want you to be "ponder" of a couple of things....

What is humility according to Christ's example?

What does it mean for us in 2017 to imitate Christ's humility in the world around us? Do you see it happening? What are some examples? Where is it a struggle and why? What do you strive for?

What is authority and who gives it?

If you were to speak of your faith and someone were to ask you who gives you this authority what would you say?

Bring these thoughts with this Sunday. Also, feel free to email me with your thoughts or questions. I would love to hear from you...really!

Peace,
Sister Tashina Good

A Ministry Conversation- All INVITED!

LYN Ministry invites you to a conversation/training on how to partner with our neighbors. This conversation will be focused on how we walk alongside of those living with dementia. What is dementia? What does it mean to support those with dementia? What does it mean to support those who have loved ones living with dementia? It will take place on Thursday, September 28 th   from 2:00 pm-3:30 pm, beginning with a half hour of social time leading into an hour of focused conversation led by your church staff and LYN Ministry leadership.

Ralph Reeder is looking for a food rescue faith team that picks up at Kowalski's in Shoreview each day Monday thru Friday at 9:30 and deliver back to the food shelf. They are also looking for someone to be one main contact who coordinates the volunteers and makes sure that they get trained before picking up. Ralph Reeder staff would initially make the introductions and training. It typically is a 2 larger car job (suv's or vans work best) and involves loading bakery, deli, produce, frozen meats and dairy into their vehicles and delivering it back to Ralph Reeder. So if you are interested in being in the driving team (even for a day or two a week or month) or if you are interested in helping coordinate other drivers let Sister Tashina.

Last month we were challenged to bring in 850 mac & cheese cups as Ralph Reeder goes through that many each month in their snack pack program. We did an amazing job of raising 528 cups! As we were still a bit short of our goal we will keep bringing in Mac & Cheese cups as our October challenge as well. Thank you all for the amazing amount of donations you continue to bring in as we support our local food shelf and the amazing ministries they do in serving our greater community! This is a huge part of what it means to be church in the world and it is exciting to do it together as a faith community

Here is a great upcoming service project opportunity with Lutheran Social Services!
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota will sponsor a Children's Clothing Sale on Saturday September 30th at the Center for Changing Lives (2400 Park Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55404). The sale offers gently used clothing to families in south Minneapolis for infants through high-school aged youth at nominal prices. This gives the families the dignity of shopping and paying for their children's back-to-school necessities at extremely affordable prices. While supplies last, all children receive a new package of underwear and socks!
Shepherd of the Hills is a collection site for clothing. We will be taking donations until Thursday 9/28.

How can you help?
  1. Clean out your closet-donate clothes to the sale

  3. Collect $$ donations and buy new socks and underwear for the sale

  4. Help Sort and Load clothing at Shepherd of the Hills on Thursday 9/28 from 7-8pm
  5. Volunteer at the CFCL on 9/30 at the Sale!
    1. What does that mean? Help keep piles neat (lots of refolding), line monitor, assisting at check out, positive energy!
    2. The volunteer shifts are set up as:
Shift One: 8:15 am to 12 noon

Martin Luther on Trial
Lucifer, Hitler, Freud, M.L. King Jr., Pope Francis and Katie Von Bora in a courtroom drama for the ages! A trial for the soul of Martin Luther . . . and the prosecutor is the Devil. In the new original play Martin Luther on Trial,  Luther's beloved wife Katarina defends him as witnesses including Sigmund Freud, Rabbi Josel, St. Paul, and Pope Francies take the stand. Even as 2017 marks 500 years since Luther ignited the Protestant Revolt against Rome, he continues to spark intense debate. You be the judge in this witty, provocative exploration of one of history's most explosive personalities and the religious and political controversies he unleashed.   For information about the performance and to purchase tickets go here.
