"Family Jam" to Celebrate
Sing With Your Child Month

On March 17, local musicians and families will gather to sing and play together.

VOORHEESVILLE, NY - March 17, 2013 - March has been declared "Sing with your Child Month" by Music Together, an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program. Deb Cavanaugh, Director and Teacher for Heldeberg Music Together, is spearheading a local celebration in the form of a Family Jam, to be held next month.

The Family Jam will take place on Sunday, March 17th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at Old Songs, 37 South Main Street, Voorheesville, NY 12186.
Building Community Through Music
The day is sure to be a joyful celebration as families come together to make music with local musicians who have volunteered their time to lead songs for families to sing, play, and dance along.  Participating musicians include Cathy Winter, Andy Morse, Terri Roben, Courtney Blackwell, John Rice, Terri Lukačko, Nancy Crowther and Deb Cavanaugh.

"Having been raised in a musical family, I love being able to share that joy with other families, bringing them together to sing and dance," said Cavanaugh. "Music-making builds community, and I think that we could use more of that today. The Family Jam will be a wonderful opportunity for families to make music together."

Adults are welcome to bring instruments; drums and percussion instruments will be provided for children to use at the jam, where everyone will be encouraged to sing-along, dance-along, and play-along.

Admission to the Family Jam will be $5 for adults and refreshments will be sold.

Music Together
Central to the Music Together approach is the idea that young children learn best from the powerful role model of parents/caregivers who are actively making music. The Music Together program is committed to helping families, caregivers, and early childhood professionals rediscover the pleasure and educational value of informal music experiences.

The 2012-2013 academic year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Music Together program. First available to the public in 1987, Music Together pioneered the idea of research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music education that emphasizes and facilitates caregiver involvement in a child's musical growth. Since then, Music Together has grown into the internationally acclaimed program it is today.
