Apprentices Move Up
The Foodservice Apprenticeship Program is still very new, but we are already seeing apprentice graduates move into higher wage jobs. A few examples of these positions are a server at an Ethan Stowell eatery, a restaurant Sous Chef, and a Chef in Corporate Dining with Bon Appetit, among others. So far our small sampling of apprentice graduates who have found new employment have an average gain in wages of over 46% - a great sign for future program success, as well as a testament to the graduates' own success and hard work!
A FareStart Apprentice works with Chef Brendan McGill.
A chance to learn from the best - Casey, a FareStart Apprentice, works with restaurant industry partner and volunteer Chef Brendan McGill of Hitchcock Restaurant Group on a meal in Maslow's , our new full-service restaurant in South Lake Union.
Three apprentices who graduated in January received, in addition to their certificates, a Kindle pre-loaded with culinary resources and a gift card, compliments of Amazon. Not to mention job retention support from their Career Development Specialist for as long as they need it.
Many thanks for your support of FareStart's Foodservice Apprenticeship Program through your support of the Rising Higher Campaign!
